This week's video game boxed sales in the UK show Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Spider-Man: Miles Morales kept their top spots.

With the video game industry constantly changing to adapt to the drastic changes society has faced recently, many game sales have taken a different turn than what some might have expected. A list of video game sales in the UK recently shows that about 85 percent of video game spending for the UK in 2020 was digital. However, this week Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury took the crown in physical sales yet again.

Another impressive milestone with digital game sales in the video game industry within the UK is that Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury held the number one spot now for its fourth consecutive week. This is even considering the fact that the title took an 18 percent decline in sales for the week ending on March 6, 2021.

Coming up in second place is Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Similar to Super Mario World 3D, Spider-Man: Miles Morales also took a 19 percent decrease in sales. However, the lack of PS5 console stock in the UK should also be factored in when comparing it to the amount of Nintendo Switch consoles in the UK.

Super Mario World 3D + Bowser's Fury was not the only Mario game to receive some love this week. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe moved up from the number sixth spot to fourth with a seven percent increase in sales. Additionally, Super Mario 3D All-Stars climbed back into the top ten at number six after a 36 percent increase in sales. This could all possibly play into the fact that these games were discounted as part of the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. The sale was going to cease at the end of the month, and Nintendo sent many reminders to its fanbase.

Another interesting point to mention is that almost no newly released games have made it onto the charts. Yakuza: Like A Dragon did recently re-release on the PS5 and made it onto the 35th spot, but that was already an established game that consumers were familiar with. Other titles to make it onto the top ten are Assassin's Creed Valhalla at number ten, Grand Theft Auto 5 at number seven, and Ring Fit Adventure for number nine. Persona 5 Strikers did come out onto the number five spot last week, but has dropped from the charts altogether.

Overall, it seems that Nintendo completely ran with the UK boxed sales thanks to its Super Mario titles and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Even Super Mario Odyssey felt some love with a five percent sales increase leading to it being at the number 13 spot. It will be interesting to see if Nintendo can keep riding this momentum and what kind of game will have to release in the future to dethrone them.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is available now, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
