SNK treats fans of Samurai Shodown to next generation console upgrades earlier than initially anticipated for all players on Xbox Series X.

Fans of SNK's Samurai Shodown may want to go check the game out again, as its next generation update just dropped a week ahead of schedule. Although the game initially released on several different platforms, these next generation upgrades will only be available to players on Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S. This means that PS5 players will still be playing with the same limitations as the Xbox One and PS4 versions have.

Samurai Shodown released back in 2019, but despite this the game is still regularly maintained. That said, fan reaction isn't entirely positive to this new update, as many feel there are other, more pressing problems that should be addressed. Others on PS5 are disappointed to see this update only available on Xbox Series X.

Among many issues brought up by fans, the game's netcode is notorious, with many players claiming it makes the game essentially unplayable online. What's more, there's still not a Steam release for Samurai Shodown, so a large group of PC players are unable to join the fight. While these issues shouldn't necessarily take away from the cool stuff being added in this patch, they do cast a large shadow.

The patch is reportedly around 27 GB in size, and the Xbox Series X upgrade isn't the only thing that it comes with. Alongside boosting framerate on that console to 120 FPS, players will also be able to experiment with the new Guard Crush mechanic and balance changes. This update is available now despite the Tweet above saying it releases on the 16th, so interested fans should go check it out.

Samurai Shodown is available now on Arcade, PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
