Eli Roth's Borderlands movie casts another role, this time with Creed II actor Florian Munteanu as Krieg. Munteanu joins other big-name actors like Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, and more.
Krieg is from a bandit family with a rough past tied to his mom for his perceived weakness. That lack of love toughened him up, only to have him captured by Dr. Benedict. When we met this character in Borderlands 2, he was a changed man from the doctor's experimentations; testing that led to the creation of the "Psychos" that love to shoot at us while exploring Pandora. He eventually escapes and kills the doctor that tormented him, but those experiments their mark. On one side, we have the manic "Psycho" personality while the other half of him is likened more to who he was prior to capture.
He's also the one charged with protecting Tiny Tina.
"Florian brings real humanity and multiple layers to a character who on the surface seems totally insane and brutally savage," said Roth in a recent press statement. "Krieg was by far the most difficult role to cast, and Florian brought him to life and grounded him in a way that I didn't know was possible. He's going to be a brilliant Krieg and will fit in perfectly with our incredible cast."
He's joined by Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Jack Black as Claptrap, Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Tannis, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, and Kevin Hart as Roland.
The Gearbox looter shooter first began its journey in 2009 and immediately became a hit with the gaming community. From this franchise's hilarious dialogue to its "interesting" cast of characters, there is a charm to Borderlands that sets it apart from the rest. The cell-shading art style adds to its magic, giving it the feel of an action-packed moving comic book, which makes this live-action adaptation an intriguing choice.
The Lionsgate film is set to begin filming soon in Budapest.
