PS Plus subscribers receive a free Combat Pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War including new blueprints, a new operator skin, and other items.

PlayStation players have received plenty of free Call of Duty content thanks to Sony’s marketing deal with Activision. That continues today, as PlayStation Plus subscribers now have access to a free Combat Pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone.

The content is part of Sony’s unique partnership with Activison, a relationship that has come to be known and the “PlayStation Advantage.” The deal has provided PlayStation fans with extra Call of Duty content since Modern Warfare, and Sony has continued to ramp up the exclusives with Black Ops Cold War, giving players perks such as additional class slots, tier skips, double XP events, weapon XP, free bundles, and the Zombies Onslaught game mode.

Players must be signed into their PlayStation Network Account to receive today’s free Combat Pack, which is available through the end of Call of Duty Season 2. The pack includes plenty of goodies, including a tiger claw blueprint for the tactical rifle, a weapon blueprint for the Pace Breaker pistol, a tactical knife blueprint, an epic weapon charm, a legendary calling card, a 60-minute double XP token, and an epic operator skin for Baker. The content is exclusive for PlayStation players through November 2021.

While PlayStation fans continue to enjoy the exclusive content, other players have criticized the Sony-Activision partnership for unfairly favoring PlayStation players and devaluing PC and Xbox gamers. Most fans seemed to not take too much issue with the deal before the release of Black Ops Cold War, as the prior PlayStation exclusives for Modern Warfare and Warzone were limited to cosmetic rewards. But fans began to voice concern when it was revealed that PlayStation players would receive an additional game mode and gameplay-impacting bonuses such as tier skips and extra XP.

Some fans have asserted that the bonuses are game-breaking because they give PlayStation players an advantage over other players, especially considering that Black Ops Cold War is cross-platform. They argue that it turns Black Ops Cold War into a pay-to-win title, as the Battle Pass Bundles that are only available to PlayStation players cost $20 a pop. Fans also take issue with the Zombie Outbreak game mode, as the feature received numerous changes and upgrades in Season Two, and only PlayStation players are able to enjoy it.

Despite the complaints, Activision and Sony are showing no signs and slowing down on the Call of Duty exclusives, and today’s Combat Pack is proof of that.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
