In Valheim, raids on a player's base can occur after certain criteria have been met. While inside of a player's home base, words will appear at the top of the screen, warning a player that something is coming. With or without the best base defenses in Valheim, enemies will spawn and begin to move in.
An enemy event triggers at random once a player has completed a certain part of the story or has killed a certain number of enemies. This mini-raid lasts for about 2 or 3 minutes and will attract a certain kind of enemy to their base. These events can only trigger while a player is inside or near to their base. A warning will come up on the screen, then whatever enemies are associated with the event will spawn close to their base and move towards it. The timer for the event does not move forward if a player sleeps.

If a player leaves a base while an event is active in Valheim, the game currently keeps the event going until the player returns to that area. A second event of the same name cannot happen twice on a map, so that event will be locked down to the location until the player returns.
Eikthyr Rallies the Creatures of the Forest - There are currently nine events that have been seen in Valheim so far. The first that can trigger is a story is "Eikthyr Rallies." This event can happen anytime before a player kills the Valheim boss Eikthyr for the first time.
- Creatures: Boars and Necks will invade the area around a player's home
- Duration: 90 seconds
- Ending Signal: "The Creatures are Calming Down"
The Forest is Moving... - The second story event can occur anytime between defeating Eikthyr and before defeating the second boss in Valheim called the Elder. Players will see the words "The Forest is Moving..." in yellow at the top of their screen for the whole duration of this event.
- Creatures: Greydwarves, Greydwarf Brutes, and Greydwarf Shamans
- Duration: 120 seconds
- Ending Signal: "The Forest Rests Again"
Since Greydwarves and their kin are good sources of rock, wood, and Greydwarf eyes, players should build spiked defenses around their homes to kill the invaders and fill their yards with loot. The Shamans can also drop Ancient Seeds, which are needed to summon the Elder.
A Foul Smell From the Swamp - After defeating the Elder, but before players take on Bonemass, the swamp can invade with an event called A Foul Smell.
- Creatures: Draugar and Skeletons, occasionally Oozes as well
- Duration: 150 seconds
- Ending Signal: "The Smell is Gone"
A Cold Wind Blows from the Mountains - The Cold Wind event is unique in that it not only brings the flying drakes to a player's base in force but also brings the freezing debuff from the mountains along with it. Players need one of the Wolf Armor pieces in order to keep the chill away. They can also brew Valheim's fermented frost-resist potions or stay warm by the first and hope the drakes don't wreck too much. This event can happen anytime after Bonemass is dead, but Moder is not.
- Creatures: Drakes
- Duration: 150 seconds
- Ending Signal: "The Cold Wind is Gone"
The Horde is Attacking - After defeating Moder in Valheim, if players haven't killed Yagluth yet, the horde can invade. This means a variety of very angry goblins from the plains will suddenly be at the player's doorstep. Thankfully, this event doesn't last as long as the Swamp or Cold Wind events.
- Creatures: Fulings, Fuling Berserkers, and Fuling Shamans
- Duration: 120 seconds
- Ending Signal: "The Horde is Retreating"
Other enemy events can trigger randomly at any time once a player has killed a certain number of a specific type of enemy or other conditions. There are four of these types of events. In spite of the fact that some of these events can overlap with some Story events, only one event can happen on the map at one time.
Skeleton Surprise - Once a player has defeated Bonemass, Skeletons can invade at any time. This boney army will bring along their poisonous counterparts, the Rancid Remains. Thankfully, skeletons are weak to blunt damage, so players should be able to bring out a shield and a Valheim iron mace and smash them into bone fragments.
- Creatures: Skeletons and Rancid Remains
- Duration: 120 seconds
- Ending Signal: "Skeletons are Tired of Fighting"
The Ground is Shaking - Once the Elder has been killed and players have defeated at least one troll, trolls can invade their base and smash their fortifications and walls with a single swipe from their tree-branch clubs.
- Creatures: Trolls
- Duration: 80 seconds
- Ending Signal: "The Shakes Start to Fade"
You are Being Hunted - The trigger for the Hunted Wolf event is unknown, but it may be killing one wolf after killing Moder. Players will be invaded by several wild wolves, and they can pit their tamed Valheim wolf army against them if they choose.
- Creatures: Wolves
- Duration: 120 seconds
- Ending Signal: "The Hunt is Over"
There's a Smell of Sulfur in the Air - Surtlings are the fiery being that drop Surtling Cores. They are fast, weak to water, and can do a lot of damage in a short period of time. Players can use frost arrows to take them out, but the only time they hold still is when they are readying a fireball to throw at players, so use caution and a fire-resistance mead if possible.
- Creatures: Surtlings
- Duration: 120 seconds
- Ending Signal: "The Smell is Fading"
