Grant Theft Auto 5's remastered versions for the PS5 and Xbox Series X will be scoured by fans for clues about the anticipated GTA 6.

Grand Theft Auto 5 seems to be one of those games that's determined to become timeless. It released in 2013 and Rockstar is still releasing frequent updates for Grand Theft Auto Online. Although the rate of updates is slowing down, seven years is a long time for Rockstar to devote to supporting the spinoff multiplayer mode of Grant Theft Auto 5. If that wasn't enough of a sign of longevity, the games are getting remastered for PS5 and Xbox Series X. Fans not quite satisfied with the new consoles' backwards compatibility will be pleased to see new versions of GTA 5 with sharpened graphics and performance.

Of course, the question that a GTA 5 remaster poses is what it means for Grand Theft Auto 6. The longer Rockstar focuses on GTA 5, the less resources it seems to be devoted to the highly anticipated GTA 6. However, fans are already wondering if GTA 5's port to next-gen consoles will actually hold some clues on what to expect for a new game in the series. It could be that Rockstar has planned the port as a way to give fans a taste of what's to come. Whether that's the case or not, fans will certainly be picking apart Grand Theft Auto 5 for PS5 and Xbox Series X in search of signs pointing toward GTA 6.

Whenever a game gets remastered, it's natural that fans wonder how different the game will feel. It all depends on what developers feel needs changing and how drastically those elements need to be changed. Rockstar hasn't shared a lot of specifics about Grand Theft Auto 5's remaster besides the fact that graphics will be sharper and the game will handle better. While that could be all there is to the remaster, fans are also reasonably wondering if Rockstar is keeping its cards close to the chest. It could easily have some little details and additions planned for GTA 5 that could mean something for GTA 6.

Even if GTA 5's remaster doesn't explicitly have Easter eggs or new features pointing towards the new game, players will be searching eagerly for any secret changes because of how they could affect the new game. Any significant deviation from Grand Theft Auto 5's previous versions or the franchise's formula in general would seem like something that Rockstar is testing for GTA 6. It wouldn't be surprising if Rockstar did put some intentional tease of the new game in this remaster. So many fans of the franchise will be flocking to GTA 5 again that the discovery of new content and possible references to GTA 6 would send huge waves through the community.

Even if there aren't any clear and objective references to GTA 6 in the GTA 5 remaster, the remaster will undoubtedly have an effect on GTA 6. For one thing, it'll set a standard for the graphics of the new game; fans will probably get a decent picture of what a new Grand Theft Auto will look like graphically thanks to GTA 5. Depending on how many other changes Rockstar makes, it could set other bars for GTA 6 to meet in terms of performance, control responsiveness, and so on. It'll create the playing field for the future of the franchise.

Hopefully Rockstar does have some secrets and clues in store for GTA fans. The community is dying to get some reliable, concrete details on a new installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, and it certainly won't mind if Rockstar decides to do so by putting some teasers in a new version of GTA 5 meant to tide fans over until the new game is out. Some might even argue that it's more fun for fans to dig up GTA 6 clues themselves and interact with them in-game. Grand Theft Auto 5's remaster is still a ways away, but ideally it'll show fans somehow that a new game in the series won't ask them to wait much longer.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is available now for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions will release in 2021.
