Over the past few weeks, Call of Duty: Warzone has allowed players to gun down hordes of Zombies in the Shipwreck point of interest. Going forward, though, it seems like Call of Duty: Warzone players will be finding the undead in many more locations.
The first area that Zombies have started to spread to is Call of Duty: Warzone’s Gulag, something fans have been expecting. Not only is the prison right next to the crashed Vodianoy ship, making it a logical area for the infection to spread to, but Activision itself recently teased this development. Sending out streamer swag to various content creators, the items in question were a dead giveaway. A prison attire and card referencing the “Ghoul-ag” all but confirmed the Zombies takeover, and today, it became official.

The Call of Duty: Warzone Gulag changes were mentioned in a Call of Duty blog post, with territories to the east of the Shipwreck confirmed to be filled with Zombies. While fighting Zombies inside the prison will undoubtedly be exciting for many players, the post also mentions that they can be seen in the “surrounding areas” of the prison. Possibly seen near the Prison bunker as well, players will need to explore the map to find all the Zombie locations themselves.
Intriguingly, the blog post also mentions the terminals inside Verdansk’s weapon silos, confirming that they will likely play a role in the rumored nuke event that sees players eliminating the Zombies. While the protocol level will still show 5%, the post implies that it will be increasing in the near future. While this is exciting, as it seemingly confirms several theories related to the Zombies spreading as well as the nuke event, the post also indicates a potential pattern for the upcoming infected location.
It seems like the Zombies will be sticking to the east, infecting locations on this side of the map first. The hordes will likely spread up to the Farmland next, continuing up toward the Lumber Yard and Quarry locations. From there, they will likely hit Verdansk’s Military Base and Dam before heading down to the city areas. This is a wise idea on the part of Raven, as it allows those who dislike Call of Duty: Warzone’s Zombies to avoid them. While less populated areas are seeing the Zombies grow in numbers, the hottest landing spots remain untouched.
With a smart system in place that progresses Call of Duty: Warzone’s Zombies story while still allowing players to enjoy normal matches if they are not interested, it seems like fans have plenty to be excited about. That said, players may want to keep their eye out for some more enemies in the Gulag going forward.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
