Following reports that a Nintendo Switch Pro will begin production this summer, a credible Nintendo insider reveals a possible release date and more.

Anyone tapped into video game industry news lately may know that the Nintendo Switch Pro is quite the hot topic right now. Though nothing has been officially announced, as fans, supposed leakers, and industry insiders alike have discussed a possible hardware revision for the Nintendo Switch, including its hardware specs, release date, and other potential features.

Just earlier this month, Nintendo's hybrid handheld-home gaming console celebrated its 4-year anniversary, and while the system is going strong both in terms of hardware and software sales, this is around the time in a console's lifespan where revisions or "pro" models start to be seen, like the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. Now, rumors from a credible industry insider may reveal more hardware specs as well as the console's release date.

On the console's anniversary, a Bloomberg report broke the news that the upcoming Switch Pro will have a 7-inch Samsung OLED display, support 4k resolution when docked, and begin production this summer, later releasing during the holidays. However, trusted Nintendo insider NateDrake on ResetEra has divulged new information, claiming that it'll likely be delayed to 2022, and that most of the console's power will be in the Switch tablet itself.

On ResetEra, NateDrake explained that they do believe this upcoming Switch console revision to be announced sometime in the fiscal year. However, the insider mentioned that they fully expect the new console to be delayed into next year, clarifying that delays are always likely and can affect every aspect of when fans will officially hear about it. Additionally, while some were skeptical as to whether the new Nintendo Switch would support 4k graphic capabilities all on its own, NateDrake has assured fans that the rumored inclusion of NVIDIA DLSS technology in the system will be in the Switch Pro hardware/tablet itself, and won't be something that is handled by the dock.

Of course, fans were happy to hear that the console revision may be able to handle 4k graphics all on its own, opening up further possibilities for third-party docks and other accessories. And with no official announcements from Nintendo just yet, it does seem likely that the company could be holding off on a reveal in the case of any potential delays, in which case an early 2022 release date would make sense.

Just last week, NateDrake chimed-in on a Switch Pro discussion claiming that the revised Nintendo Switch system will have some console exclusives, "especially" from third-party developers and Nintendo partners. As rumors and supposed leaks run rampant, it seems all fans can do for the time being is wait for an official announcement.
