The fantasy game The Witcher 3 has a lot to offer. The vast world contains multiple areas the player can explore: White Orchard, Vizima, Velen, Novigrad, Oxenfurt, Skellige, and Toussaint. With so many places, the possibilities are almost endless and some players don't know where to go first. However, Velen usually is the first large area any player spends a lot of time in. From swamps and marshes to small or bigger villages, Velen hides a lot of secrets.

Besides investigating whether Ciri was ever in Velen and if yes, whether she's still present, Geralt can do a lot of other things in the so-called no man's land. He can also search for treasure, as there are many memorable treasure hunts in Velen.
10 A Costly Mistake
A Costly Mistake takes place near the Hangman's Alley. Geralt finds several drowners standing around corpses. After he kills the drowners, he should loot the bodies to kickstart the quest. He won't have to go far to find the hidden treasure. It lies in the half-sunken ship. However, before Geralt can reach it, he'll have to kill several more drowners underwater with his crossbow. Despite the effort put in, it's worth it because Geralt will get a silver sword Maugrim that way. And early in the game, he can't have enough of good silver swords what with the abundance of monsters all over Velen.
9 Hidden From The World
In the war-ravaged Velen, Geralt will come across a lot of hostile deserter camps. One of them lies near the Marauder's Bridge. After Geralt defeats all three bandits in the camp, he discovers a letter that will lead him to the treasure. The treasure is on a small hill nearby. It contains a lot of useful things, most notably a diagram for Disglair, a silver sword. But Geralt will also get some crafting/alchemy ingredients and a few crowns.
8 Out Of The Frying Pan, Into The Fire
Despite the titular pan, this treasure hunt has nothing to do with the quest in White Orchard where Geralt helps an old woman find her pan. The quest starts in an abandoned village called Mowshurst. He finds a cellar door he needs to break with the Aard sign. He discovers a dead body inside. The body has a key and a note. It will lead Geralt to haystacks on the other side of the village where he will discover a locked chest. What makes this treasure hunt special is that the chest contains the Mag Deira cuirass armor, which can be useful, as well as several runestones and other things.
7 The Dead Have No Defense
This treasure hunt starts near Duen Hé in a camp of deserters. Once Geralt kills them, he finds a note and a key on one of the bodies. The quest will lead to Geralt confronting several more deserters near the treasure's location.

Once they're dead, Geralt can take the valuable treasure. He'll get some Florens, a manuscripts page and a diagram, gauntlets, and some useful crafting components too.
6 Lost Goods
This quest takes place near the southern island of Oxenfurt and the Ferry Station travel point. Geralt will find a dead Niflgaardian soldier. After he loots the body, the quest will lead him to a small boat. Geralt will have to defeat several drowners before he can find the treasure in a box hidden in the grass. Since Geralt is forever short on money (at least in the books), the treasure will come in handy. The box contains 20 Florens as well as pure silver and silver ore, both of which are good for crafting weapons.
5 Blood Gold
Unlike other treasure hunts in Velen, the player can struggle with finding this one. It hides on a small island near Oxenfurt. Geralt finds a dead soldier there. When he loots the body, he gets a key and a document stained with blood. That will lead Geralt to an abandoned lookout post. Once there, he discovers a rich treasure. Geralt will get a diagram for the Assassin's boots, gauntlets, the armor Ard Skellig aketon, and some crafting components.
4 Tough Luck
In the treasure hunts, Geralt often comes across money and other valuables because of other people's misfortune. In this case, he finds a body near the Devil's Pit. When he loots the body, the letter the dead man had will lead Geralt to a chest nearby the cart where he found the body in the first place.

The chest contains a lot of precious things, such as a diagram for the Precision bolt, 25 crowns, a runestone, gauntlets, some food, and others.
3 Battlefield Loot
Geralt can start the quest near the Eternal Fire Chapel. He discovers a bilge hag standing over a corpse and a dead dog. Once Geralt deals with the hag, he will find notes and a key on the body. He will discover the treasure chest in a nearby tower. Once he opens the chest, he will get a valuable relic sword, crafting components, as well as a runestone, trousers, and other useful things.
2 Coast Of Wrecks
Coast of Wrecks is by far one of the best treasure hunts in Velen. Even if the player decides to ignore most of the treasure hunts, they should still consider doing this one. It starts when Geralt discovers a chest with a letter inside on a wrecked ship near the Widow's Grotto. The rest of the quest can be demanding. Geralt will have to defeat several drowners and then find four different chests in the water or nearby it. The quest is worth doing because Geralt will get a lot of valuable crafting diagrams this way as well as some manuscript pages for bombs and decoctions.
1 Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear
Technically, a significant part of this quest takes place in other locations, outside of Velen. But it's important enough to include since Velen also contains a piece of the griffin school equipment. Geralt should travel to Lornruk where he'll find a tower where a wyvern lives. After dealing with the beast, he can go through the things in the tower. He'll find a chest with a diagram for the Griffin silver sword. It's the first step to putting together the complete armor of the Griffin witcher school!
