The Call of Duty rumors are seemingly endless. With the nature of the series--and the games themselves--transitioning to live games as a service model with constant content, the community continually digs into data, reports, and more for upcoming information; this is very true with a recent rumor for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
Whether it be Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Call of Duty: Warzone, Call of Duty Mobile, or the upcoming Call of Duty title in 2021, rumors, speculation, and information continues to come forth. That seems to be the case, yet again, as details have immerged for what could come down the pike for Season 3 of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Twitter user @WarzoneNewz is reporting that a new map named "Echelon" is on the way for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. There are a few things that are quite intriguing about the information surrounding the map. One is that the map should arrive in Season 3, once Season 2 of Black Ops Cold War comes to an end. Another interesting thing to note is that apparently the map has been held back since around the launch period of the game. The map will hold 6v6 matches.
Perhaps most curious is the idea that Echelon is a combination of three previous Call of Duty maps, specifically from some of the Modern Warfare universe of games. Echelon takes features from Dome (Modern Warfare 3), Highrise (Modern Warfare 2), and Vertigo (Black Ops 2).
All three of these maps are very much beloved in the Call of Duty community, so it would make a lot of sense for them to return in some way or another. Call of Duty Mobile has been adding classic fan-favorite maps, for example. What is not known is whether or not the Echelon map literally takes whole features from some of these three maps in creating a new map or whether or not @WarzoneNewz on Twitter was simply comparing this new map to those fan-favorites. Echelon will apparently have two dome-like features and be set on a high building, so it could be that the map does not at all literally take assets from those old levels. Instead, @WarzoneNewz could have been using old favorites as a comparison to best explain the possible future map.
It should also be noted that this Echelon map has not yet been confirmed, so all of this should be taken with a grain of salt for now. There are plenty of pieces of rumor and speculation that come and go, many of which end up being confirmed, others are proven to be false. Recently there has been leaked but not confirmed information that the Call of Duty: Warzone map will be nuked and never return, for example. If and when that happens, the individuals who have been reporting it will be proven correct. But it is also likely that information gets passed around that is faulty, especially within a massive and popular franchise like Call of Duty.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
