Twitch star Michael "Shroud" Grzesiek shares his tips for any newcomers to streaming, giving advice on how to make a channel a success.

Streaming is something that has been on the rise for several years now. Websites such as Twitch, which recently came under fire when it banned a Christian streamer, have become platforms for people to make successful careers out of livestreaming their gameplay sessions and building up a community. One of the biggest streamers in the world, Shroud, has now come forward to reveal how people looking to stream can make it big online.

Despite already having a rather large following from his days as a professional CS:GO player, Shroud has still had to work hard to grow his Twitch channel. With his success, he's been able to share his tips to help new and growing content creators promote themselves and get their streams noticed. One thing he believes is that simply going live every day for hours is not enough to cut it in an industry that contains millions of people all vying for attention.

One of his main tips suggests making an impact on smaller, more niche, communities. Games such as Elder Scrolls Online have a lot of players, but, he says, they don't tend to have a lot of streamers. It's possible to become big on Twitch by honing in on one specific game franchise or a specific community. If everyone is streaming something like FIFA or Grand Theft Auto 5, it will be difficult to be seen and heard when there are already so many people producing content for those franchises.

There's no denying that becoming a huge star on platforms such as Twitch or YouTube is extremely difficult. While some people are lucky enough to make a successful living streaming their favorite games, it takes a lot of commitment for newcomers to get themselves known. Shroud, who's real name is Michael Grzesiek, has become so big recently, that Twitch had to block a recent raid attempt because he has "too many viewers."

Twitch is arguably the go-to platform for gamers to stream content to, and has been around for nearly ten years. There are some competitors out there, such as YouTube, but Twitch still seems to reign supreme. However, Amazon recently launched a video game streaming service, specifically aimed at mobile games. Whether or not it will be able to take on the might of Twitch remains to be seen, but it's likely that, having already bought the number one streaming website back in 2014, it's probably not going to affect it too much.
