Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is set to receive patch update 1.2.0 later today, March 16, 2021. This patch will bring support for the upcoming Ostara Festival, some new skills, as well as the highly anticipated Changed Appearance/transmog feature for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Patch update 1.2.0 will also bring various bug fixes and general game improvements for players.

The Ostara Festival will begin on March 18, 2021 and last until April 8, 2021. The Ostara Festival will bring some unique side activities such as egg hunts, as well as special rewards for players who participate in the Festival. Valhalla players will also gain access to three new skills for Eivor to take advantage of, but the bigger topic of conversation is the new transmog feature. While a highly requested feature, it has a huge flaw.

Assassin’s Creed players have been requesting a transmog system for Valhalla, mainly due to the fact that Odyssey, the previous game in the Assassin’s Creed series, had a transmog system which allowed players to change the appearance of their gear. Of course, Odyssey's didn't come until post launch either, but it was still a much better system. There are a couple differences between the transmog system in Odyssey and the upcoming transmog system for Valhalla that players should be aware of before changing the appearance of their gear in Valhalla.

Valhalla will force players to visit Gunnar, in Ravensthorpe, in order to access the Change Appearance feature. On top of that, it will cost players 50 Silver to transmog a single item. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey allowed players to change the appearance of their gear within their gear menu, for free. Compared to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Valhalla’s transmog feature is a clearly more costly and inconvenient version of transmog.

For Valhalla players who want to change the appearance of all their gear, it will cost them 50 silver for each piece, totaling 400 Silver to change the appearance of all 8 gear items. Depending on how many gear sets players have that they want to change the appearance of, this cost can add up quickly. It's doubtful that players who have finished Assassin's Creed Valhalla have stockpiles of Silver, given its use and limited quantities, but even those who have penny pinched would likely see that drained quickly.

The decision to charge players Silver to use the transmog feature could possibly be changed in the future; after all, anything that can be patched in can be patched out. Hopefully, as players continue to voice their concern, Ubisoft will respond and change this in a future update. For now, players will have to cough up the 50 Silver for Gunnar’s transmog services. Fortunately, players still have River Raids and the upcoming Ostara Festival to distract them from the cost of the new feature.
