After the new Adversaries feature launched in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite at the end of 2020, there is now a brand new type of recurring event for witches and wizards to enjoy. As many players were hoping after December's surprise Adversaries event, it seems that the new event type will be popping up on a recurring basis - with the January edition kicking off today.
The January 2021 Adversaries event in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite begins on January 19 and runs through January 22. Just like the December event, this one will feature select increased Adversaries appearing on the game map and a short chain of tasks for players to work through in order to earn some exciting rewards along the way.

Players will get a chance to face off against some different Adversaries this month as the event puts Ancient Hungarian Horntail, Draco Malfoy, and Fenrir Greyback into the spotlight. Hopefully these increased Adversary encounters should be enough to help players work through all of the tasks that are available during the short event...
Defeat 35 Foes in Wizarding Challenges - 2 Strong Exstimulo Potions
Find 2 Wit-Sharpening Gifts - 1 Wit-Sharpening Potion
Use 1 Edible Dark Mark - 2 Armadillo Bile
Earn 1500 Challenge XP through Wizarding Challenges and/or Adversary Chains - 1 Edible Dark Mark
Use 7 Exstimulo Potions (any) in Adversaries Combat - 20 Spell Energy
Use 3 Wit-Sharpening Potions in Adversaries Combat - 4 Healing Potions
Deal 20,000 Damage to Adversaries - 1 DADA Book
Return 15 Artefact Fragments from Ancient Hungarian Horntail Chain - 2 DADA Books
5 Defense Against the Dark Arts Books
1 Edible Dark Mark
500 Wizarding XP
60 Gold
30 Spell Energy
Surprisingly, many players actually had a hard time finishing the list of tasks during the December event window. There were some pretty vocal complaints from the community and Niantic listened to the feedback and has adjusted the requirements and trace density going forward. Hopefully that will make things a little more doable this time around and offer the average player a fighting chance.
Once again, there is a very strong list of task and completion rewards, so the developers are clearly looking to motivate players into checking out the new feature and giving Adversaries a try if they haven't already. The pile of DADA books should almost certainly be enough to motivate the average player to participate. This feature already has some positive buzz in the community, so it seems very likely that this will go on to be a very popular event.
If any additional bonuses or rewards are revealed, we’ll be sure to post an update. Be sure to check back in the comings days for more Wizards Unite strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, keep your wands at the ready!
