One of Demon's Souls' rarest weapons, Istarelle, can be very difficult to obtain and is even linked to a trophy called "One of the Few."

Demon's Souls is filled to the brim with weapons that will help players with the monumental task of slaying the demons of Boletaria, but the most powerful ones are hidden away throughout the game's many areas. One especially rare weapon is called Istarelle, and its item description describes it as one of the few remaining relics of God. Getting this weapon is anything but easy, as it not only requires players to have a deep understanding of World Tendency mechanics, but also to be skilled at beating what many feel is the game's hardest Archstone.

As players progress through the game, their actions will have an effect on the world around them. Do traditionally "good" things like killing bosses or defeating invaders and the World Tendency will shift towards white, meanwhile doing traditionally "bad" things like killing NPCs or dying while in body form will shift the World Tendency towards black instead. In order to get Istarelle, Demon's Souls players need to achieve Pure White World Tendency in the Valley of Defilement.

The Valley of Defilement is Demon's Souls' fifth Archstone, and the levels within are often considered some of the most difficult in the game. This is due to the low light levels, swamps that inflict poison or plague on the player, and enemies that deal very high damage. Getting through this level is hard enough, but players that want to get Istarelle will need to do so with a handicap. The best way to ensure Pure White World Tendency is to play through the entire Archstone while in Soul Form. If players can beat it without dying in Body Form, then they will achieve Pure White World Tendency. This means returning to the Nexus to die anytime the player restores their body by killing a boss.

After all three bosses are defeated and the World Tendency is in its pure white state, return to the first area of the Archstone called the Depraved Chasm. Continue on through the level as normal until reaching a narrow path with a Giant Depraved one on the other end of it. Head towards the Giant Depraved One but take a left turn to find a nook with a ladder in it. This ladder only appears in Pure White World Tendency, so it wasn't there the first time players explored this level. Climb the ladder and follow this path, being weary of the several Giant Depraved Ones here, to find Istarelle.

Istarelle is a great weapon for Faith characters, as it scales very well with that stat. What's more, its physical damage is relatively low, meaning players don't need to worry about upgrading their Strength and Dexterity beyond what is required to use it. While equipped, the player will have increased resistance to the poison and plague status effects, making it particularly useful in New Game + when going back through the Valley of Defilement again.

Demon's Souls is available now on PS5.
