The Warhammer universe has been blessed with numerous video game releases and announcements lately. Though the Warhammer series has its roots in tabletop wargaming, it has successfully made the jump to PC and console gaming, with entries like Total War: Warhammer 2 and Warhammer: Vermintide 2 offering different playstyle approaches for fans of the universe. A few new upcoming titles have been announced recently, including the much-anticipated Total War: Warhammer 3 and Warhammer 40K: Darktide. But now Warhammer fans have another game to look forward to called Necromunda: Hired Gun.
Necromunda: Hired Gun has not been officially announced today, but leaked instead by the Microsoft store. The store page reveals the game's potential cover art, showing a cyborg-like hunter with a cyber-mastiff at his side. The game is described as a "fast-paced" and "violent" indie first-person shooter that will take place in the infamous Warhammer 40K hive cities of Necromunda. Necromunda: Hired Gun will be the second video game primarily set in the cities of Necromunda, with the first being 2020's Necromunda: Underhive Wars.

In Necromunda: Hired Gun, gamers will play as a bounty hunter tasked with "balancing" the ecosystem in Necromunda. This means taking out gangbangers and mutants, but not for free. Bounty hunters are enhanced with customizable augments that allow players to traverse Necromunda with skill and speed, and the hunter's cyber-mastiff companion can also be upgraded and customized. Twitter user IdleSloth has discovered screenshots of the game not present on the Microsoft page, which can be seen here.
The Warhammer 40K universe now has two first-person experiences in development, with the other being Warhammer 40K: Darktide. However, Warhammer 40K: Darktide is an Xbox Series X exclusive and designed with a multiplayer experience in mind. Microsoft lists Necromunda: Hired Gun as a single-player experience that will be available for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, and there is no mention of a release for PlayStation consoles, Nintendo Switch, or PC.
Necromunda: Hired Gun is being developed by French indie game company Streum On Studio, the same developers who worked on 2016's Space Hulk: Deathwing, another first-person shooter set in the Warhammer 40K universe. If the game's Microsoft page is accurate, Necromunda: Hired Gun will be releasing on June 1 of this year. This is good news for Warhammer fans, as it means they won't have to wait long to get their hands on the game. Though the Warhammer company Games Workshop wants more AAA games set in its expansive universe, if Necromunda: Hired Gun can impress gamers as an indie title, it could set the precedent for better indie-made Warhammer games in the future.
Necromunda: Hired Gun is set to release on June 1 for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
