There are three ships that can be built in Valheim to traverse the seas: the small and slow raft, the late-game longship, and the mid-range Karve.

In Valheim, players have several biomes to explore. But of all of them, the most vast and dangerous may be the Ocean biome in Valheim. In order to traverse it as safely as possible, players will want to build the best possible boat.

There are three possible watercraft currently available. Valheim players can make a raft, a Karve, and a longship. The raft is a very basic and slow craft made of wood, resin, and leather scraps. The Longboat is the biggest and fastest boat, and it is made with iron nails and Ancient Wood, which players will not have access to until they are able to survive the Swamp Biome. But there is a boat that falls in between these two ships: the Karve.

This boat is not quite as fast as the longship, but the Karve is a great boat for those seeking adventures on the high seas. Unlike the raft, the Karve has on-board storage in order to transport additional goods from one place to the other. Since metals and their ores cannot be teleported in Valheim, the storage is a great way to carry some metal across waters and back to a player's base.

In order to unlock the Karve, players will have to have mined both copper and tin, combined them into bronze, then turned that bronze bar into bronze nails. Once a player has had bronze nails in their inventory, the recipe for building a Karve should be available. Players will also have to have come in contact with Fine Wood. The crafting recipe for the Karve in Valheim is:

  • 30 Fine wood
  • 10 Deer hide
  • 20 Resin
  • 80 Bronze nails

Fine wood is found from Oak and Birch trees in the Meadows; they require a copper axe or better to fell. Players need a bow and arrows in order to kill deer for their hide. Resin is found from trees and killing Greylings in the Meadows. Bronze nails are made from bronze bars at a Forge; each bronze bar creates 20 bronze nails, so players will need 4 bronze in order to create a Karve.

Once players have all the ingredients, they just need to head down to the water to build it. A level 1 Valheim workbench is required to be nearby in order for the Karve to be built.

  • 500 HP
  • Has two additional seats
  • Has 4 Storage slots
  • Max Speed is 24.5 km/h
  • 20m turning radius
  • The Karve is fast enough to outrun a Sea Serpent if the wind is behind it

Valheim is currently in Early Access for PC.
