Microsoft reports via the DirectX developer blog that the same auto HDR technology found in the Xbox Series X/S will be making the jump to PC.

The Xbox Series X contains hardware and software specs that extend far beyond what previous console generations were capable of. With a slew of new features that can be tailored to any user's personal preference, the Xbox Series X has a lot to offer players. Luckily for those unable to get their hands on a console unit, one software feature found in the Xbox Series X is now transitioning onto PC.

When it first launched back in November of last year, the Xbox Series X provided a multitude of features that vastly improved the quality of life for most users. This included the Xbox Series X's quick resume feature, as well overlays to help make game library organization more efficient, and plenty of other implementations. Though, one of the more ambitious and exciting improvements included on the Xbox Series X is the inclusion of auto HDR.

Auto HDR is intended to improve the color balance and brightness of older, backwards-compatible games as a way of enhancing the experience. The YouTube app recently added HDR support on Xbox consoles and now the feature will be coming to PC gaming as well. In a Microsoft Developer blog post, the studio details how the feature works and what it does, for those uninformed.

According to the post, the auto HDR format can be toggled and applied to over 1000 DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 games. For those looking to enjoy much older games, like Gears of War, for instance, with updated visuals on PC, then this feature will certainly come in handy. Although, it almost seems as if this is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of auto HDR technology.

As software continues to evolve and move on to bigger, more impressive heights, it almost fundamentally changes how developers approach the process of developing games. With such a useful new feature, the development of any game can be done alongside auto HDR. In fact, it was rumored that Halo Infinite was actually doing something special with auto HDR, but how it applies to the game has yet to be explained.

In any case, it's nice to know that Microsoft has continued to provide support to PC players as well as console players. With resources readily available on consoles, such as Xbox Game Pass, available on PC as well. Now, the inclusion of auto HDR on PC will hopefully make any given user's experience even better. Fans will just have to wait and see how else this feature is utilized.
