Dead Cells' developers confirm that the popular indie game has passed another impressive sales milestone following its recent launch in China.

Indie game Dead Cells is a challenging 2D roguelike Metroidvania game that involves playing as a clump of sentient cells controlling a headless body, while trying to discover the mysteries of the island prison that makes up the game world. The game just passed an impressive new sales milestone recently.

Dead Cells has been out for three years already and is still going strong having just released in China and added to as part of a bonus for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. As well as the Fatal Falls DLC just having come out in January.

Dead Cells' developers Motion Twin and Evil Empire have recently confirmed that the game has recently passed 5 million sales worldwide. This is an impressive feat, since the game just reached 3.5 million sales last year. It's rare for a AAA game, let alone an indie game, to maintain those kind of sales numbers throughout its entire lifecycle.

The massive spike in sales is likely due to the game's recent launch in China where, according to the developers, the game sold over 1 million units in "just a few days." Which is unsurprising since the country is such a huge market for games.

This is amazing news for the fans and developers of Dead Cells, as well as for gamers in general. Indie titles are probably going to carry gamers through 2021, so it's good to see them achieving the success they deserve. Now that the latest DLC is out, it will be interesting to see what Motion Twin does with Dead Cells in the future, whether or not it will release another DLC, or if a possible sequel is in the works.

Dead Cells is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
