Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is part of a series which focuses on fast paced shooting and precision gameplay. Treyarch's newest title continues the tradition, and recently the team added a competitive mode to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War called League Play. But fans are wondering if the penalties for quitting are harsh enough, and the development team seems to agree.
In comparison to casual modes, League Play in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War assigns a rank that goes up or down depending on wins or losses. Since matches involve a team working together, just one quitter can determine the end result. Penalties in shooters for this behavior can vary, but Treyarch's signature FPS only dishes out a hit to rank points. For many rage quitters, a loss penalty is not that much different than waiting for an actual defeat.

Because of the forgiving punishment, a competitive player expressed concern through Twitter. Reaching out to the game's Lead Designer, Matt Scronce, the fan inquired if there will be harsher penalties coming up. Losing ladder points is not effective enough, as this problem is apparently occurring in the highest tiers of League Play. Despite how random League Play placement may be, the player mentions that almost every Masters game has a leaver.
Fortunately, Scronce did respond via Twitter about the prevalent issue of rage quitting. That said, his only answer was Yes to the question. At this time there are no specifics on how exactly the developers are going to manage this problem.
While many Call of Duty players expected a competitive mode, League Play has had a lot of issues so far. It is difficult to take the mode seriously when matchmaking is placing pros in a bottom bracket or leavers quit rounds constantly. Though there is no perfect salve for eliminating the rage quitter problem, there are ways to combat it. Other team shooters like Overwatch or Rainbow Six Siege put a timed ban on quitters to prevent rejoining instantly.
Since this is not a new problem without solutions, fans are justified in hammering Treyarch for the cushy penalty. However, with the developers playing League Play themselves, that should result in a solid plan for how to deal with the problem. Since Matt Scronce committed to harsher punishments, it will only be a matter of time before an update comes to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Nevertheless, players very concerned about their rank will want to lay off League Play for now or risk dealing with unfair losses.
