Netflix announced new cast members who will be joining season two of The Witcher, including a few familiar faces from beloved franchises.

After a highly successful first season, fans of Netflix's The Witcher have been eagerly awaiting more news on the second, which is currently filming. Today, the social media account for The Witcher has announced some of the new cast members joining season two, including familiar faces from The Hobbit and Bridgerton.

Recently seen as Lady Danbury on Netflix's Bridgerton, Adjoa Andoh joins the cast of The Witcher as Nenneke, a mother figure to many lost travelers at the gates of Melitele Temple. According to Netflix, she has nursed many, including Geralt, back to health. Graham McTavish, star of The Hobbit and Outlander, joins as Dijkstra, head of the Redanian Intelligence secret service. Furthermore, Downton Abbey's Kevin Doyle will be playing Ba'lian, one of many elves seeking refuge in unexpected places on the continent.

Also joining the cast is Cassie Clare as Philippa Eilhart, an influential sorceress who is a primary advisor to Redania's King Vizmir. Chris Fulton, who was briefly seen on Bridgerton, plays Rience, a sadistic mage hired to hunt down a prized jewel. Finally, Simon Callow and Liz Carr will appear as crime-solving duo Codringher and Fenn. Codringher is the face of the business, while Fenn focuses on the research.

Season two of The Witcher has been a long time coming for fans. Although production began in February 2020, it was halted in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although shooting resumed in August, it was halted again for two weeks in November after crew members tested positive for COVID-19. The shooting schedule was impacted again when star Henry Cavill suffered a leg injury before the holiday break. While filming is again underway, there has been no release date set for the show.

Season two is not the only Witcher-related content fans have to look forward to, however. Netflix will be producing a live-action prequel to the series, entitled The Witcher: Blood Origin. Actress Jodie Turner-Smith has been confirmed as the lead role, playing an elven warrior. Netflix will also be releasing an animated spin-off film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, focusing on the origin story of Geralt's mentor.

Of course, fans missing the original series can also play one of the popular games in the franchise. Although released several years ago, the games have massive worlds to explore and offer hours and hours of gameplay. Fans can also take the time to read the original book series that inspired the TV show as well as the games. The author of said books, Andrzej Sapkowski, has voiced his approval for TV series.

The Witcher season one is now streaming on Netflix.
