Six Days in Fallujah has entered back into the public eye in 2021 after essentially being cancelled all the way back in 2009. For those who may not know what the game is, Six Days in Fallujah is an Iraq War game based on the real world events that members of the US Marines experienced fighting in the Second Battle of Fallujah in 2004.
However, the game has been stuck in limbo state for some time, with players not really knowing what shape the first-person shooter will take upon release. Now, Six Days in Fallujah has received its first official gameplay reveal trailer, showcasing procedural environment generation and squad controls.

The gameplay trailer comes courtesy of IGN, which opens with clips from an interview with military veteran and US marine Sgt. Jason Kyle, who was the squad leader of the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines during the Second Battle of Fallujah. Before showing the first gameplay of Six Days in Fallujah, the trailer gives Kyle time to explain the bleak picture that the US Marines experienced during the Battle of Fallujah. Afterwards, the first segment of gameplay paints Six Days in Fallujah as a realistic military shooter, as opposed to more fast-paced, action oriented games like Call of Duty.
The trailer then quickly goes over some brief gameplay features such as giving commands to the rest of the squad. This feature will allow players to flank enemies holding a position while the squad lays suppressing fire. Additionally, the trailer showed the player issuing the command to have their squad stack on a door and breach it to commence a sweep of a residential home. This is when the trailer shows what is perhaps one of the most intense elements of Six Days in Fallujah's gameplay that real army veterans dealt with during the battle: The Funnel of Fear.
The Funnel of Fear is the process of breaching and clearing tight, enclosed spaces in residential homes during war. Again, the Six Days in Fallujah trailer shows clips of veterans describing their real life encounters during harrowing breach and clear missions, emphasizing the intense fear of the unknown. Six Days in Fallujah will recreate this same sense of unknown by procedurally generating unique residential districts for each playthrough, complete with randomized home interiors. It's certainly an interesting way to make sure that players never know what to expect during gameplay.
Finally, the trailer wraps up with another breach and clear segment, where players happen upon civilians followed by segments of an interview from civilians who stayed behind during the Battle of Fallujah. Though somewhat controversial, it seems the team behind Six Days in Fallujah is serious about not shying away from the reality of war. Needless to say, while the gameplay trailer showed some of what the game has to offer, it also ensures that players know the team is taking the source material seriously. While there is still a lot of things players don't know about Six Days in Fallujah, the game looks fairly promising despite being a little rough around the edges.
Six Days in Fallujah is expected to release late 2021 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
