Firebase Z introduced Mimics to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies, with the terrifying creatures changing up the mode’s gameplay quite a bit. Apparently, these Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies enemies can hide in some wild places as well.
Normally, Firebase Z’s Mimics are easy enough to identify. They can disguise themselves as equipment and scorestreak drops, so if players enter an area where they were not fighting the undead and see an item on the ground, it is all-but-guaranteed to be a Mimic. Further, Mimics can sometimes even be seen spawning in, allowing them to be shot out of their hiding spots. As such, most players that have played the map a few times know how to handle this enemy type, as its hiding spots seem rather limited.

Apparently, though, Mimics can actually disguise themselves as one of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies’ perks. Redditor LeMemeMoo shows off a gameplay clip of the discovery, and sure enough, a Mimic can be seen revealing itself as the Tombstone perk. Shocked by the transformation, the player does a double take before quickly gunning down the Mimic. Clearly just as confused by the change as the post’s commenters, the player seems shocked that this is a Mimic hiding spot.
As of now, the Zombies community seems to be split on whether this is a bug or an extremely rare spawn point for Mimics. While the perk machine returning to the map after the Mimic is killed would imply that this spot is intentional, the odd way in which it reappears does not look nearly as smooth as one would expect, meaning that it may simply be a bug. Regardless of whether this Mimic spot is another Firebase Z glitch or a previously undiscovered mechanic, players will want to keep an eye on the map’s perks going forward.
If this is truly a mechanic, though, it can be assumed that Mimics can disguise themselves as more than just Tombstone. All the perk machines on the map would likely be potential hiding spots as well, while items like the Wunderfizz machine and Armor stands could be fair game as well. With this hiding spot only just being discovered, there could be others like it scattered throughout Firebase Z. For now, players can only be certain that their perk machines may not be inanimate after all.
With Mimics also seen inside the Outbreak game mode, there is no shortage of potential undiscovered hiding spots for this mini boss. As such, it seems like Zombies fans will need to be on edge constantly when exploring the game’s most recent maps.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
