Hazelight's upcoming game It Takes Two is just around the corner, and so far, it has been getting very positive reviews. The biggest complaint from critics seems to be that its narrative falls flat sometimes, but the gameplay is almost universally celebrated and it is the best reviewed game of 2021 so far. For those players that have found their interest piqued by this or simply from watching the trailers, one of the first questions to come to mind is likely how long the game will take to beat. Since it hasn't yet released at the time of writing, there isn't enough data to definitively say how long it will take an average player, but Game Director Josef Fares does have something to say on this matter.

For those that haven't seen it, It Takes Two tells the tale of Cody and May, two parents that find themselves on the verge of divorce. Before they can seal the deal and go their separate ways, their daughter accidentally curses them, forcing their consciouses into small dolls. The adventures that ensue are wacky and zany, but always have a backdrop of realism and a serious tone. It Takes Two can only be played in co-op.

In an interview with Gamingbolt, Fares went into detail about how long the game is. According to him, the experience should last around 14 or 15 hours to complete. Naturally, this could change depending on the skill level of the players involved, but this seems like a good average to go off of. He continues to say that, while there are no collectibles to be found, there are plenty of secrets and other things to interact with. If players simply rush the story, they may be able to cut this time down even more.

This is a sharp contrast to Hazelight's last game, A Way Out. This title was a tale of two convicts seeking to escape from prison, but the main story only lasted about six hours. Despite the game having a great story and interesting characters, one of the biggest complaints was that players didn't get to spend enough time with them. That seems to have been a priority for the creation of It Takes Two, as it looks as though the game will take about three times as long to beat.

Once It Takes Two releases on March 26th and players start reporting their completion times, it will be easier to get a more accurate estimate of how long it takes to beat the game. Until then, players will have to assume that this 15-hour estimate is accurate and make their purchasing decisions based on that knowledge.
