Xigbar was introduced back in Kingdom Hearts II and has been an important part of the series ever since.

Kingdom Hearts has a lot of amazing characters. One of the greatest antagonists that has appeared throughout the games is Xigbar. He was introduced in Kingdom Hearts II as the second in command of Organization XIII, but there is much more to him than what initially met the eye.

Xigbar has become one of the most interesting and mysterious characters in the series, especially after fans found out some insane information about him that changed everything they thought they knew at the end of Kingdom Hearts III. Here are ten things that players should know about this clever little sneak.

10 He Was An Apprentice Of The Master Of Masters

Originally, Xigbar was known as Luxu, one of the Master of Masters' apprentices. Back then, Luxu was a kind person that was concerned about his fellow keyblade wielders and saw the best in the man that taught him everything. However, everything changed when the master gave each of his six students an important role that they'd need to fulfill after he disappeared. These roles resulted in the Keyblade War, as well as the changes that Luxu would go through until he became Xigbar.

9 He Was The Reason The Book Of Prophecies Was Written

The Master of Masters gave five of his apprentices a copy of the Book of Prophecies, with Luxu being the only one that didn't receive one. The Book of Prophecies told events that would happen in the future, which caused the group to turn against each other in X Back Cover. The master was able to write this book because he could see into the future with his Gazing Eye. He gave Luxu No Name, a keyblade that has the Gazing Eye in it, and had him look at everything that had yet to come. If Luxu hadn't, the master wouldn't have been able to look into the future nor write the book.

8 He Had His Own Apprentice That He Gave No Name To

Watching the events that would be written down was hardly the beginning for Luxu's role. He also had to find an apprentice to pass No Name down to. Though fans aren't exactly sure who this apprentice was, they know that it was a Union leader.

The five Union leaders are Ephemer, Skuld, Ventus, Brain, and Lauriam. Many suspect that it was either Ephemer or Brain that obtained No Name due to Ventus and Lauriam (and most likely Skuld) being alive decades, and possibly centuries, after the Age of Fairytales ended.

7 He's Possessed Multiple People

After he passed No Name down to the Union leader that became his apprentice, Luxu began taking control of others' bodies, allowing him to live much longer than the other characters. Little is known about most of these versions of him, with his names and appearances being a mystery. However, he would eventually possess Braig, who would become Xigbar, the villain that fans know and love him as.

6 He Started A New Life In Radiant Garden

Little is known about Braig before he was possessed by Luxu besides him living in Radiant Garden. When Luxu turned into Braig, he continued living there and was an apprentice to Ansem the Wise, the king of that world. He worked alongside Dilan and Aeleus as guards of Hollow Bastion, Ansem's castle. From what was shown in Birth by Sleep, however, he didn't do nearly as much work as they did.

5 He Helped Xehanort Defeat The Wayfinder Trio

Braig would soon meet Xehanort, the current owner of No Name, and started working closely with him. At the time, Xehanort planned on fighting Terra, Ventus, and Aqua (known as the Wayfinder trio). He wanted to possess Terra and manipulated him to achieve this goal.

He had Braig pretend to capture him so that Terra would rely on his dark powers, just like Xehanort wanted him to. Terra struck Braig in the eye, causing him to wear an eyepatch for the rest of the series. At the end of that game, Xehanort got exactly what he wanted and Braig helped him fight against Aqua and Ventus as well.

4 He Was One Of The Founding Members Of Organization XIII

Taking down the Wayfinder trio was just the beginning for Xigbar and Xehanort. Now possessed as Terra, Xehanort started a new life as Ansem's apprentice, just like Xigbar did. They betrayed their master and convinced the other apprentices to join them in becoming nobodies, creating Organization XIII. Though they told their comrades that their goal was to obtain their own hearts, they were actually lying to them and planned on turning all of the members into different incarnations of Xehanort.

3 He Was The Only Seeker Of Darkness To Not Be Defeated By The Guardians Of Light

In Kingdom Hearts IIIthe Guardians of Light (which consisted of Aqua and Ven, a former member of the organization named Axel, and other protagonists throughout the series) fought Organization XIII one last time after many battles throughout the franchise. The members of the organization changed a lot since it was created, with some of them coming to the future and turning into replicas. In the battle between the two groups, Xigbar was the only antagonist that wasn't defeated. Instead, he pretended to have lost his fight against Sora and Riku, but actually just left the battlefield.

2 He Was Never Actually Loyal To The Organization

Throughout the years, Xigbar helped Xehanort with everything he needed and proved to be one of the organization's best members. However, this was all an act in order for him to complete his role. He needed to wait until Xehanort's defeat and be close enough to him to be the first person to pick No Name up. When he first went on his mission, the Master of Masters also gave Luxu a mysterious box that has something important in it. Xigbar tried to go behind Xehanort's back to receive the box and sent Luxord to find it, causing him to be suspicious of Xigbar after all this time.

1 He Is Going To Have A Greater Role In The Next Saga

In the epilogue of Kingdom Hearts III, No Name fell down from the sky and Xigbar picked it up. After that, all of the Foretellers except for Ava materialized in front of him. This was the first time they saw him since he went on his mission and they were very confused as to why he was so different and how they returned. Though he may have completed the role that their master gave him, it's clear that Xigbar's story is just beginning and he is going to be much more important in the upcoming games.
