It's been a big day for The Elder Scrolls Online. Fans got a bevy of new information about what the game has in store for 2021, including the Gates of Oblivion expansion's release date. On top of that, fans got their first look at the new year-long Chapter for Elder Scrolls Online, Blackwood, which will continue the story of Gates of Oblivion.
Releasing on June 1 for PC and Stadia, and June 8 for Xbox One and PS4, the new Chapter will introduce around 30 hours of new content for players to adventure through. The Chapter will introduce players to the Blackwood zone, which will feature a "fiendish" new storyline that directly ties into the Gates of Oblivion chapter. The zone will show off Argonian culture, and how that mingles with Imperial ambitions.

In addition to the Argonian slice, players will get to see the Imperial City of Leyawin, which was first featured in Oblivion. The Niben forest will also be featured, along with the Blackwood Bog. The story has players investigating a conspiracy surrounding deposed Longhouse Emperors, and will also feature Mehrunes Dagon.
On top of that content, fans can expect the usual new stuff to delve through, similar to how content was rolled out for the Dark Heart of Skyrim in 2020. There will be a new 12-player Trial called Rockgrove, a new system for NPC companions, public dungeons, world bosses, delves, and standalone quests. Fans can also expect other quality of life improvements to come to the game throughout the year, though there were few details on the specifics of those improvements.
Those that pre-purchase The Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood will be granted a few additional goodies to take with them throughout their adventures. Currently, players who pre-order will get the Welwa Ravager mount and the Nightmare Bear Club pet, though the Nightmare Bear Club pet is only available to those who pre-order until March 17. Players will also receive the Dremora Kynreeve outfit, Deadlands Wamasu pet, and a few bonus items when the Blackwood Chapter officially launches.
There are a few different options to purchase Blackwood, both for new and returning players. The upgrade editions are meant for players who already own the game and all of its content, while the two base editions will grant players The Elder Scrolls Online base game and all prior expansion packs, including the current expansion, Greymoor.
It's a lot of new content for the game, which should keep players pre-occupied throughout the year. The Elder Scrolls Online has received oodles of updates since it first launched, with more to come in the future.
The Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood releases June 1 for PC and Stadia, and June 8 for PS4 and Xbox One.
