Fighting this large raptor will bring hunters back to simpler times before gamers had to slay the hundred foot tall tempered elder dragons for every quest. Despite the cute and quirky appearance of this monster, he can be a slippery beast to defeat. This guide will cover everything players need to know about fighting the beloved Kulu-Ya-Ku.
9 Where To Find Kulu-Ya-Ku
The whimsical bird can be found in both the Ancient Forest and Windspire Waste. The bird is hard to miss while traveling through either area, and it will often make an abrupt and hilarious appearance. For example, the wyvern will commonly pick up rocks, hurl them at massive monsters, and immediately run away. Kulu-Ya-Ku is also the target of six quests, but most players will remember the bird from the limited-time event "Egg Lovers United" in 2018.
8 Monster Weaknesses And Ailments
Kulu-Ya-Ku has five weaknesses and a stun ailment. The poor bird does not have any resistances, so the following attacks will do the most damage to the monster.
- Fire: 2*
- Thunder: 2*
- Ice: 2*
- Dragon: 2*
- Water: 3*
Water is the greatest weakness of the creature, but any of the five will work. Kulu-Ya -Ku is also easily stunned, so power attacks will be effective against the creature.
7 The Egg Hoarder
Kulu-Ya-Ku will almost always be carrying something. The bird is one of the few creatures in the game that has limbs that car carry and throw items. It will commonly have an egg in its hands, as the bird is known to raid the nests of other bird species. The comical monster loves to carry rocks as well, which it will use to throw or bash anything that it is threatened by. To dispossess the bird, players can shoot its hands or the item it is holding. This will often cause the wyvern to drop the rock or egg. However, Kulu-Ya-Ku will not be happy when it loses its egg.
6 Fighting Kulu-Ya-Ku
The Kulu-Ya-Ku players will encounter in most instances is a lower-level weak monster that should not be very difficult to take down. Players that have progressed past the beginner levels will dispose of the bird quickly. The wyvern does not have any resistances and it does not have enough health to survive for very long. The main challenge when fighting the wyvern is disarming it using either a sword or slingshot. Attacking the Kulu's rock with a melee weapon will wear down weapons, however.

Hunters should use the slingshot to disarm the bird as a result. Kulu-Ya-Ku will use the rock as both a sword and a shield. If hunters force the Kulu to drop the rock, it will be an easy opponent to conquer. The wyvern's head and limbs are the areas of the monster that are most susceptible to damage.
5 Capturing Kulu-Ya-Ku
Hunters will notice a distinct limp when Kulu-Ya-Ku is close to death. The bird will try to limp away and seek refuge in a cave. Even on its death bed, Kulu will seek out eggs for one final meal. 1 Bird Up!
Kulu-Ya-Ku is a fan favorite for a multitude of reasons. The monster is goofy, skittish, reckless, and ridiculous. Even low-level Kulu will heave rocks at elder dragons, which is hilarious. Capcom did an amazing job with the monster. Unlike some of the other creatures, the Kulu seem to have their own personality. In a way, they resemble a Chihuahua enticing a Pit Bull. In a game full of gigantic frightening monsters, it is nice to see the featherbrained Kulu every once and a while.
