Cosplay is a fun and beautiful art form for many pop culture fans. Cosplays can range from video games to comics to movies to pretty much anything that has fans dressing as their favorite characters. Some cosplays require more planning or a bigger budget, but others can be very minimal and still look put together. Cosplay is a great way for creative people to display their skills. It’s also a fantastic way for fans of something to come together and potentially do a group cosplay.
Some cosplays need extra time and attention due to the detail of them. Others just need a keen shopping eye to find the perfect pieces for a simple cosplay. Simple does not always mean better in cosplay, just like more extravagant also doesn’t necessarily mean better. If the person is happy with the cosplay they’re in, that’s really all that matters. For those who want to cosplay but don’t know where to begin, they can try out some of these “easy” cosplay ideas from popular video games.

Life is Strange may be full of supernatural time-changing abilities, but luckily that doesn’t have to translate into an outfit. Pretty much every character in Life is Strange is able to be cosplayed with relative ease because they all wear everyday clothing. Some characters have iconic shirts, but otherwise, it’s fairly easy to assemble the necessary clothing for the cosplay. People with longer, blond hair would have an easy time cosplaying as Rachel Amber. Those with short brown hair could cosplay Max Caulfield. Others who have shorter brown or blue hair could be Chloe Price. Some people turn to wigs for these cosplay ideas, but they’re by no means required for an excellent cosplay.
Cosplaying as an actual pocket monster (Pokemon) can get pretty in-depth, other Pokemon characters don’t require nearly as much effort. Some trainers featured in the video games and show have fairly simple outfits that make for recognizable and easy cosplays. Misty, the Water-type Pokemon trainer, has an iconic outfit that’s easy to assemble. Brock, the Rock-type trainer, also has an easy-to-find outfit. Both of these cosplays only require getting the right clothing pieced together, and they can be pretty comfy if the right items are found.

The Sims is perhaps the easiest video game of all to cosplay. Many people print out a plumbob, the game’s signature item that denotes what Sim is selected, and tape it to their forehead. Others get a bit more in-depth, crafting a headband with the plumbob attached and floating above it, giving an illusion of how they appear in-game. The point of The Sims is that players can create whoever and whatever they want, so fans could really wear anything and still be considered a Sim.
Older games in The Sims franchise also have lore and well-recognized townies that fans could dress up as. Many people love dressing up like Bella Goth, but there are tons of iconic townies that fans can choose from. Finding clothing for townies typically isn’t difficult either, as they tend to be styled in regular clothes (for the most part.) Another popular The Sims cosplay idea is the famed burglar who was featured in The Sims, The Sims 2, and The Sims 3, breaking into Sims’ homes and stealing their most valuable items.
“Easy” cosplays are a great introduction to the creative hobby without having to make a big investment right off the bat. Cosplaying as beloved characters can help fans build a deeper connection with the character at hand. It can also just help people look and feel really cool for the day; it’s always gratifying to have others compliment a cosplay, regardless of how “simple” or “easy” it may look. Life is Strange, Pokemon, and The Sims franchise offer an excellent starting place into the world of cosplay.
