In a recent blog post, Bungie details some changes heading to the popular looter-shooter Destiny 2. The post has a lot of information in it, but one part that is sticking out to players is Bungie's response to players calling for changes to Destiny 2's Celerity and Bottomless Grief traits.
Many fans have been calling for the traits to be intrinsic to any weapons earned by playing Destiny 2's Trials of Osiris or Nightfall modes, some of the most challenging content in the game. Both of the perks bestow benefits to the last player standing in a fireteam. The Celerity trait can be earned on Trails of Osiris weapons, and increases the player's target acquisition, handling, and reload speed while also reducing how much the player flinches from incoming fire. The Bottomless Grief trait appears on Nightfall weapons and refills the player's magazine after every takedown.

While Bungie is not making the traits intrinsic, Destiny 2 is still changing how they work to make them stronger in Season 14. The Bottomless Grief trait will now grant a permanently active +30 to the weapon's magazine while also being a fixed alternate perk on Adept Nightfall drops, meaning players can always pick between Bottomless Grief and the random perk that was assigned to the weapon when it dropped. The Celerity trait now grants a permanently active +20 to both reload and handling, while also being a fixed alternate perk on Adept Trials weapons.
In the post, Bungie says it thinks the community's idea is thematically cool, but it has some reservations. The post says the the number of perks a Destiny 2 player can have active at one time is limited for performance reasons, and with most of the Legendary weapons being at the limit already, adding a permanent perk to every single one could cause others to not activate properly. Furthermore, the post raises concerns of power creep causing the gear available in the game to keep increasing in power to attract players, which would eventually get out of hand.
The changes Bungie made instead seem to be a good compromise, balancing what the community was looking for with what the developer thinks is best for the longevity of the game. The post says it is not done with origin perks and will be looking at how to improve them in future updates. Until then, the changes to Bottomless Grief and Celerity only apply to new weapon drops, so Destiny 2 players will have new drops with the changes to look forward to in Season 14.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
