With the conclusion of the Windblume Festival in two days, Genshin Impact developer miHoYo has launched its next event update in the form of the Contending Tides arena. Like other limited-time events in Genshin Impact, in Contending Tides, players have the opportunity to earn primogems, mora, and various talent and weapon ascension materials by battling it out with Hilichurls in an arena.
To start the event, players must first accept the world quest "Mountainous Summons," which tasks the Traveller with aiding Dr. Livingstone in investigating the unusually active Hilichurl population of Daupa Gorge. After arriving at the location, speak to Dr. Livingstone who, after a brief explanation, will unlock the Contending Tides event location on the player's map. Once the arena has been unlocked, fast travel to the Contending Tides waypoint located north of Daupa Gorge to enter the event.

The Crimson Tides event begins on April 2nd and will run until April 12, giving players ample opportunity to earn the various rewards in time for the upcoming Childe banner. From the event menu, players will notice a total of 7 challenges that will unlock throughout the duration of the event.
For each challenge, there are a total of 3 reward lots for players to obtain by completing the challenge on each of the three difficulty levels. The difficulty levels for each challenge include Normal, Hard, and Extreme, and each has a recommended party level associated with them.
It is important to note that in order to complete each of the difficulties for the challenges, players must meet the completion criteria listed in the event menu. Unsurprisingly, the completion criteria vary depending on the difficulty selected, with the higher difficulties requiring the player to meet more stringent requirements.
Completion conditions include defeating a given amount of enemies in a given time, defeating a given amount of special enemies, and being limited on the number of deaths per challenge. After all of the completion conditions have been met, the challenge will end and players will unlock their various rewards.
While the current challenges available only have players facing off against standard Hilichurls and Axe Mitachurls, later challenges will ramp up the difficulty as players will have to face everything from Ruin Guards to the dreaded Stonehide Lawachurl.
Overall, the Contending Tides event provides Genshin Impact players with an enjoyable distraction as they wait for any additional content drops alongside the Childe banner and the 1.5 update which is set to launch in late April or early May.
Genshin Impact is available for Mobile, PC, and PS4, with PS5 and Switch versions in development.
