The announcement of a new ESO chapter has fans excited. Here's a list of things players should know about the region and the story of Blackwood.

The announcement of the Blackwood chapter in Elder Scrolls Online has taken the fanbase by storm. But what is Blackwood, and what's in store for the future of ESO? Many older fans will remember Blackwood from the previous Elder Scrolls games, but a lot of others have only just heard its name. Now the trailer reveals a fair amount and has certainly got people excited but it's also opened up a fair amount of questions!

Players will know how much ESO has changed in the past few months. They'll also know that the release of this new chapter will bring new experiences and a change in how they play. However, it's important to know what to expect, especially with Blackwood.

10 It's The 5th Chapter Of Elder Scrolls Online

One of the best things about the Elder Scrolls Online franchise is its ever-expanding world. There are millions of quests and many fans have invested over 500 hours into the game without even reaching level 810, which is no longer the max thanks to the Heroes Reforged event.

However, many will be surprised to hear that the Blackwood chapter is only the 5th introduced. Its predecessors include Morrowind, Summerset, Elsweyr, and Greymoor. This doesn't include over 15 DLCs that have also been released. Hopefully this means there will be many more, especially considering Bethesda's alliance with Xbox.

9 Where Is Blackwood Located In Tamriel?

Blackwood lies in between the Cyrodillic city of Leyawiin and the Black Marsh city of Gideon. This places it near familiar ground, for those who have never been there. The chapter itself takes place in the southern region of Blackwood, but that's not to say the player can't explore more.

There's a whole new section available to explore. After all, the last time fans saw Blackwood, it wasn't exactly a small area. Ultimately, Blackwood is a rather swampy region that sits between the Argonian lands of the Black Marsh and the Khajiit lands of Elsweyr.

8 Blackwood Is Filled With Daedra

While the region of Blackwood is surrounded by Khajiit and Argonians, this chapter makes the Daedra the real enemy. In Blackwood's main story, the emerging Daedra threat plagues both Blackwood and its surrounding area. Players can expect to see Daedra worshippers summoning large numbers of these evil creatures.

Daedra as an enemy are nothing new, but from the teasers fans have seen, they seems deadlier than ever. This only makes the new chapter more exciting, since it means players can use their new skills, champion points, and gear to be the powerful warriors they are.

7 When Was Blackwood First Mentioned?

Recent fans will see Blackwood as a new and exciting location, filled with unique quests to explore and complete. However, hardcore who have played every Elder Scrolls game will be extremely familiar with the marshy lands of Blackwood. Some may be ecstatic to see their favorite region incorporated into the expansive land of Elder Scrolls Online.

The first time fans truly saw Blackwood was in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, released in 2006. This means that there will be a considerable amount of players who know the location like the back of their hand. However, fans don't know if the map be the same as in Oblivion.

6 What Does The Blackwood Chapter Include?

Aside from Daedra, Blackwood is filled with over 30 hours of story content, brand new side quests, and missions, and a few new dungeons to keep players entertained for hours. As is typical for Elder Scrolls Online, the stories appear entertaining and include more than just fighting enemies or hunting down items.

For players who do love a good fight, the Oblivion Portal World Events are perfect to run around and find. within the game. What's more, they're a little bit tougher with new levels, so these battles can last a good long while.

5 What Can Players Expect In Blackwood's Story?

With 30 hours of story content and the many new side quests comes an engaging storyline that will take players all over Blackwood. Players will face off against Prince of Destruction, Mehrunes Dagon, as he tries to doom Blackwood and the whole of Tamriel. It's up to the player to figure out what exactly his plans are, and how to stop them.

Not only is there a main storyline, but fans have also been teased about a stand-alone tale. This has already begun with the Flames of Ambition DLC, and continues with the rest of the exciting events Bethesda has planned. Fans will have to find out for themselves what it entails, but all signs point to the Deadlands.

4 What Does Blackwood Mean For ESO As A Whole?

With the introduction of the Flames of Ambition DLC and the imminent release of the Blackwood chapter came a multitude of new and exciting changes for ESO as many know it. Perhaps the most anticipated is the new companion system. Companions are customizable and the player can level them up, give them armor, and chat whenever they want.

For players who are more focused on their own growth and power, there will be a new champion points system. It might be confusing at first, but ultimately, it should improve many aspects of the game. Additionally, max-level characters might be a little upset to find that there are now more levels, going up to a whopping 3600.

3 Where Does This Chapter Fall In The Timeline?

Interestingly, this chapter is actually set 800 years before Oblivion. This means that fans likely can't predict much about the events or the location itself. While this can be a little odd for many, it could actually be a positive. Even fans who have played Oblivion won't know what's going to happen before starting Blackwood.

One thing fans can expect are hoping to see are brilliant easter eggs, and perhaps an opportunity to see how their choices affect the events in Oblivion. Even if it is set centuries in the past, there are still opportunities to tie it to the present.

2 When Will It Be Available?

Blackwood was announced at the beginning of 2021 and fans have been desperate to find out its release. Luckily for some, it will be on June 1st for any PC/Mac and Stadia players. PlayStation and Xbox players will have to wait until June 8th.

It's a shame that there are two release days, but with only a week between them, hopefully it won't be too excruciating. What's more, players only have a few more months to wait before they can play the Blackwood chapter.
