Season 8 of Respawn Entertainment's Apex Legends is expected to end on May 3, so a May 4 start date for Season 9 shouldn't be a mere coincidence.

Battle royale games have exploded in popularity in the last few years, and Respawn Entertainment's Apex Legends is one of the biggest games in the genre. Like most battle royale games and online shooters, Apex Legends implemented a battle pass system along with different in-game seasons. For Apex Legends, each new season introduces new characters, weapons, cosmetics, and sometimes even new maps.

The most recent season for the game, Season 8: Mayhem, introduced the bombastic Offensive Legend, Fuse. While this season didn't introduced a completely new map, it gave the popular King's Canyon map a bit of a rework, and saw the Caustic Town Takeover event last month. With Season 8 of Apex Legends winding down, fans are eagerly awaiting information on the next season's changes. The end of Season 8 and the anticipated start of Season 9 coincide with a very special date, which hopefully isn't a coincidence.

Currently, Season 8 of Apex Legends is expected to end on May 3, 2021. Most of the time, the game's next season will start either the same day or the next day once the current season has concluded. If Respawn Entertainment keeps up this track record, then fans might be able to experience Season 9 on May 4, 2021. Any Star Wars fans out there will perk up at the mention of this date, as it has become an annual celebration of the Star Wars franchise. If Season 9 were to start on May 4th, there are fans that would certainly love a crossover of some kind between the two franchises.

After all, Respawn Entertainment also developed the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order game that released in 2019. With both games developed by the same company, and both published by EA, who knows what could happen? Plus, EA itself has been the main force between many recent Star Wars games like the Battlefront series and Star Wars: Squadrons. It would definitely be a missed opportunity if Respawn Entertainment and EA didn't levy Star Wars Day in any way.

Since each new season in Apex Legends introduces new cosmetics and gameplay elements, there are so many ways Star Wars could come to the Apex Legends universe. The cosmetics in Apex Legends include things like unique Legend and weapon skins, weapon Charms, Skydive Emotes, Finishers, loading screens, music packs, and more. Typically, many of these can be earned by players through the season's battle pass. It would be cool to see Star Wars inspired items and cosmetics, and many fans would be excited to earn or buy them.

It's improbable that any Star Wars characters would actually make an appearance in Apex Legends, unlike battle royale games like Fortnite. However, there are plenty of possible skin ideas that could be seen. Wraith could get a Jedi robe costume, Pathfinder could get a skin modelled after R2-D2, or Revenant could get a Darth Vader headpiece. Though the Skywalker Saga has concluded in the films, Apex Legends content could still be inspired from the core movies. If the developers wanted to pull from something more recent, The Mandalorian is a current show that has appeared in games before.

While it may be a pie-in-the-sky wish, a crossover between Apex Legends and Star Wars isn't entirely outside the realm of possibility. Apex Legends is set in a very distinct universe first created in the Titanfall games. Any crossover won't be as flexible as it could be in games like Fortnite, but there is still some cool content that could be made. New seasons also introduce new Legends, and Respawn believes that the next Legend will appease the Japanese fanbase of the game especially. At the very least, fans can look forward to that if nothing else.

The game's director has been teasing fans about major changes coming to Apex Legends in Season 9, saying that the game will have "major things you did not expect." What could be more unexpected that a crossover with another sci-fi universe? In any case, May 4 and Star Wars Day is about a month away, so fans should start hearing about Respawn Entertainment's plan for Season 9 sometime soon.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, with next-gen versions in development.
