With Spellbreak's upcoming Chapter 2 update on April 8th, adding in Leagues should prove a good move for new and veteran players alike.

Spellbreak is a fast-paced battle royale game with an emphasis on spellcasting and frenetic movement. Its developer Proletariat is rolling out a big update called Chapter 2: The Fracture on April 8th. The new update for Spellbreak refreshes the game's talent system, adds a new game mode, and adds an important facet for any competitive game: Leagues. This will add a better sense of progression and accomplishment for both new and veteran players.

Proletariat recently demoed the new Spellbreak update with Game Rant, and a big emphasis was on how the League system will work. Players will be able to track their progression through each match as they earn various accolades. These include things like getting kills, taking control of a point in the new Dominion mode, and other more specific types of gameplay achievements. Starting in Bronze League, players will be able to move through several tiers all the way to Legendary League on a seasonal basis, with each new chapter constituting a new season.

While many of the updates for Spellbreak are generally to add new items to the shop and address bug fixes, the next update adds a lot. The new game mode is a 5v5 objective control game that has players battling to maintain control of different points on the map. The new mode will be a great way for newer players to hone their skills instead of having to restart each death in the battle royale mode, and will be a good way for new and veteran players to earn accolades in order to climb up in League rank. Accolades award Crowns, which are the unit of measurement for League progression. Naturally, more difficult to earn accolades award more Crowns and help players move up faster.

Each match played in a higher League than Bronze comes with a Crown penalty as a cost for entry, but with Spellbreak's focus on fan feedback, the cost can't set them back to a lower League. It's essentially a handicap to how many Crowns can be earned in each match and puts an emphasis on experimentation and skill in order to earn enough accolades to continue rising through the Leagues. This is a fairly commonly used mechanic, so fans shouldn't have much to worry about in that regard.

Adding Leagues should prove a good way to extend the game's life beyond the update, which is already packed with new content. Having a system for newer players to feel like they are making progress from the jump and simultaneously providing a way for more experienced players to show off their skills should go a long way for Spellbreak. Ultimately, the biggest update for Spellbreak since its first chapter adds a lot of variety to an already engaging game. Fans don't have long to wait to try out the new modes and League progression in Spellbreak.
