Many are flocking back to Among Us with the recent update adding a new map, tasks, and general game changes. Some returning players however may be confused upon opening the game again to see that they need an account in order to play with a name of their choosing.

It is understandable to not like having to make even more accounts for games, especially when the game originally didn't require one. Luckily for Among Us players, the account creation process can be completed in under 30 seconds, letting players quickly join their friends for more crewmate and imposter shenanigans.

This new system was likely created as a way to counter the infamous hacking incidents in the game's past after it grew in popularity. It will also likely help keep the game a safer place for the many younger players who come into public and private games.

In order to create an account, players will need to select the "Account" button on the top left corner of the main menu's screen. This button will lead players to their account info and also let them create one. If players don't have an account, they can make one with the "Sign In" button that appears in the bottom left corner.

After pressing the "Sign In" button, players will be asked if they want to create an account. By agreeing, players will automatically have an account made for them without the need for an email or additional password. This account will be tied to the current platform that players are using and cannot be used on other devices.

When creating a username, certain words cannot be used if they are deemed to be inappropriate. Usernames additionally aren't unique, meaning that multiple players can have the same name in Among Us. This name additionally can be changed at any time from the account menu when players are outside of game rooms and lobbies.

It is unknown if anything else is going to be done involving Among Us accounts in the future or if they will remain in their current state for the rest of the game's lifespan. Having one however is essential for those who want the level of customization that comes with choosing one's own name in-game.

With the Among Us community back in full swing now is the perfect time to play together with friends and explore all of the new content. There is plenty to enjoy and experience, with likely more coming in the game's future.

Among Us is currently available for Mobile, PC, and Switch. An Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S release is planned for 2021.
