Shortly after releasing its first trailer, Space Jam: A New Legacy has revealed that Zendaya will play the role of Lola Bunny.

As the early trailers for Space Jam: A New Legacy have made their debut, there's plenty of fun scenes and colorful characters to get a look at, as well as a solid setup for the overall plot of the film. While the film seems to poised to be a get-together for just about every Warner Bros. character under the sun, there has been some special attention paid to one Looney Tune in particular, who is getting a pretty significant shakeup.

That character is, as many already know, Lola Bunny. Since making her first appearance in the original Space Jam, the character has never had a truly consistent look or style in any Looney Tunes property. Unlike the other tunes, such as Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck, she hasn't really been around long enough to set her character in stone and have one consistent design.

So when the early looks at Space Jam: A New Legacy started to drop, many fans noticed that her look was quite different from her original Space Jam appearance. While some bemoaned the change, the director quickly made it clear that they were hoping to get a full reinvention for the character in this film, reconsidering what her role really should be in this updated team of cartoon sports stars.

Part of these changes involved a new uniform and design that felt more kid-appropriate, as well as a new emphasis on her leadership and sports proficiency. Apparently, those changes are going right down to the voice of the character, as the recent trailer drop was followed by an announcement that Lola Bunny would not be using any of the character's previous voice actors.

Instead, Lola Bunny will by voiced by none other than Zendaya, one of the industry's fastest rising stars. It's something of a surprise casting, but between her recent Emmy win and her rise to prominence as MJ in the MCU Spider-Man movies, she certainly seems like someone who could do something interesting with the character.

Zendaya will also be joined by several NBA and WNBA stars who will cameo throughout the film, such as Chris Paul, Anthony Davis, and Diana Taurasi. Warner Bros. certainly hasn't skimped out on big names for the cast list, which hopefully means the full feature will be everything it can possibly be when it finally hits theaters and HBO Max later this year.
