The show will be set after the rebooted trilogy games.
Lara Croft is making the leap to Netflix thanks to a new Tomb Raider anime.
The streaming service revealed the news on Twitter, saying that this show is being made by Legendary and will take place after the events of the rebooted Tomb Raider trilogy of games.
The animated series is being written by Tasha Huo – also working on The Witcher: Blood Orange spin-off show – who is also serving as an executive producer.
This wouldn’t be the first time that Lara Croft has made the leap outside of video games. Back in 2001, Angelina Jolie portrayed the gun-wielding archaeologist in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider before its 2003 sequel, The Cradle of Life. It wasn’t until 2018 that Croft appeared on the big screen again, this time being played by Alicia Vikander in a rebooted Tomb Raider film.
The video games series was rebooted with a trilogy that started life in 2013 with Tomb Raider, before Rise of the Tomb Raider dropped as an Xbox One exclusive in 2015. The final part of the trilogy – Shadow of the Tomb Raider – was released in 2018.
This isn’t the first video game to be adapted into an anime for Netflix. Castlevania and Dragon’s Dogma are already on the streaming platforms, while Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Splinter Cell and Sonic the Hedgehog are among the games IP coming to Netflix as anime.
