Now that Monster Hunter Rise has been released for fans, the game hopes to take its well-established mythology and expand on it to keep returning players invested. And while many will recognize some of the monsters in Monster Hunter Rise, there are now slight differences in how gamers should approach them.
The Nargacuga in Monster Hunter Rise is no exception. The infamous tailed Wyvern is powerful enough to take down smaller beasts with one strike and blend in well within darker surroundings. Nargacuga's are typically found in the Shrine Ruins or Flooded Forest Habitat of the game.

As dangerous as they are, gamers can acquire some useful items and gear off of them. So for Monster Hunter Rise fans looking for tips on taking down the Nargacuga, here are some ways to approach the battle.
Nargacuga's main elemental weakness is Thunder; however, Fire will also serve well as a secondary element. When looking for weak points, the head, tail, and foreleg will typically be the best places to focus on. An important thing to know is that if gamers attack the Nargacuga's tail enough and manage to cut it off, it will greatly reduce the range and damage of its attacks. Typically, the Insect Glaive or other sharp weapons in Monster Hunter Rise are great for dealing severing damage.
When using items in Monster Hunter Rise, the Flash and Sonic Bomb will be most helpful in stunning the beast since the Nargacuga relies on its senses to navigate in the dark. Pitfall traps are not as highly recommended since the Nargacuga can dismantle them, but if desired, be sure to exercise greater caution when placing them.
The Nargacuga will typically stalk its prey with its body low to the ground; this will normally indicate that it is getting ready for its lunge attack. Gamers should quickly evade this attack but wait to see if the Nargacuga will follow up with a second lunge before drinking a potion or sharpening their weapon. Additionally, it has a double spin attack that can be quite deadly. Hunters caught in the first spin should escape the second one or prepare any emergency defense techniques if they want to avoid death.
The Nargacuga's tail can shoot spikes from the tip when it raises it into the air. Luckily, this move is quick and easily avoided. Secondly, the Nargacuga will also jump back and use a tailspin attack. The range for this attack is much wider and harder to avoid; gamers near the head should dodge to the opposite side and get out of the way. Lastly, the Nargacuga has its signature spiked tail slam attack that can instantly kill a hunter. Gamers can watch out for this by noticing when the Nargacuga has a stance change, indicating that it's now stalking its prey.
Monster Hunter Rise is available now on Switch. A PC port is expected to launch in early 2022.
