BioWare details changes to combat and other gameplay elements across all three games in its highly anticipated Mass Effect: Legendary Edition.

After years of speculation and rumors Mass Effect: Legendary Edition was announced last year to fans' excitement. Not only does it bundle all three of the classic games together with just about all of their DLC, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition has also given some details as to what changes to the games players can expect when it released next month.

As iconic as the Mass Effect series is, its community does have complaints about the games. Fans often criticize the original Mass Effect over controlling the Mako, and the ending of Mass Effect 3 was a massive controversy when it first launched. Of course, sweeping changes like an entirely new ending would run counter to the point of a remastered collection, but Mass Effect: Legendary Edition does promise to make quite a few changes to help smooth out the combat in the older titles and unify the experience as a whole.

In a post to the PlayStation Blog, BioWare has detailed the changes to combat players can expect in the remastered collection. In the original Mass Effect BioWare says that the gunplay has been tweaked to be more responsive and predictable without scrapping the more traditional RPG mechanics in the game that can cause the guns to feel a bit more random and unreliable than in the series' later entries. Other changes will include a rebalancing of the combat abilities, melee attacks are now mapped to a button press, weapons can be used by any class without penalty, and weapon powers have been improved.

The post also details additional gameplay improvements that span all three games of the trilogy, including updating some of Mass Effect's more frustrating boss fights. Some other listed changes include specific tweaks to certain encounters and enemies, improving the cover mechanic and adding more cover options to some encounters, adjusting XP balance, and tweaking ammo drops in Mass Effect 2, which many fans thought dropped far too sparsely.

The changes all seem to be very positive, and look as though they aim to address many of the frustrations and issues that the community surrounding the trilogy has expressed over the years. Everything that has been released about Mass Effect: Legendary Edition so far has looked great, and the collection is getting many Mass Effect fans excited. Hopefully, it can live up to the hype and further cement Mass Effect as one of the best video game trilogies out there.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition launches on May 14 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
