Dragon Age fans discover an interesting and elaborate Easter egg referencing a couple of Templar characters hidden away inside of Outriders.

Following a handful of delays, Outriders has finally launched and continues to pull in impressive numbers even in the wake of major launch issues. Following the game's release last week, the game's servers proved to be problematic as outages and disconnects plagued the experience. Over the course of a few days, Square Enix and People Can Fly have managed to get a handle on the server related problems and Outriders has one again stabilized.

Still, even in the wake of all of these launch issues, Outriders continues to be a massively popular game especially on the PC platform. Not only has Outriders taken over the top spot on the Steam Weekly top-sellers list, a position that has been dominated by Valheim, but player numbers continue to skyrocket. Over the weekend, Outriders managed to hit its highest concurrent player population, peaking around 116,000 players this past Sunday. With that many players active and online, it was only a matter of time before some of the Easter eggs hidden away were found.

The latest one reference's BioWare's Dragon Age series and can be found once players arrive at an area called Deadrock Pass. It's here that a sidequest called A Free Market can be obtained by a character named Alastair Cullen, a play on two Dragon Age Templar characters Cullen Rutherford and eventual Grey Warden, Alistair. While that may have been enough for Dragon Age fans, People Can Fly didn't stop there.

When Outriders players first meet Alastair Cullen, the character appears to be snorting a substance that the character refers to as a way to keep the people of Deadrock agreeable. Fans of Dragon Age, like Game Informer's Liana Ruppert, have linked the substance to Lyrium, which Templars rely upon heavily to keep the order in check while referring to it as the source of their anti-mage powers.

Going one step further, Ruppert noticed that a deck of cards is laid out on the table to help cut up whatever it is that Cullen is snorting. To her, this could be another reference, albeit a possible stretch, to the Dragon Age card game known as Wicked Grace.

While the experience has improved for all players since launch, it's still not perfect. Players have begun reporting new bugs that have popped up including a nasty one that seemingly wipes out a player's loot and gear. People Can Fly has been pretty good about providing workarounds for newly discovered issues like the infinite loading glitch, but so far, the developer has yet to issue a statement. One player lamented the fact that the bug wiped out 20 hours of endgame gear. Hopefully this is an issue which can see the items restored rather than simply be lost forever.

Outriders is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
