2020 was a disastrous year for so many people, for reasons far and wide. One glimmer of hope the year brought, however, was that so many incredible games were released that year. The number of critically acclaimed games that were released in 2020 were so many that many found it difficult to pick just which game was the best of the year.

Thankfully, 2021 seems to follow suit. There are a ton of incredible, highly anticipated upcoming games we're looking forward to playing. A few of them don't even have release dates yet, but we're excited about their releases all the same, if not even more.
10 Psychonauts 2
Psychonauts 2 is a game that follows up the first Psychonauts game that came out 16 years ago. The original game initially failed to garner sales, but those who did play it absolutely loved the game.
Psychonauts eventually gained a cult following over the years, and many of them urged the creators of the game to create a sequel. Due to lack of funding, however, this proved to be a difficult endeavor. After a successful fundraising campaign, development for the game began and it is expected to come out sometime this year.
9 Gran Turismo 7
Gran Turismo 7 is the eighth installment of the massively popular Gran Turismo racing games franchise. It was first revealed during the PlayStation 5 reveal event, and since then fans of the franchise have been clamoring to get their hands on this game.
This title will feature many classic features such as Special Events, Driving School, and Championships, while also maintaining newly introduced features introduced in the previous game. It will take advantage of the PlayStation 5's advanced capabilities such as ray tracing, haptic feedback, and 3D audio.
8 Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
The Lego Star Wars series has gained a massive following over the years. It takes the story everyone knows and loves and transforms it into a more fun-filled, lighthearted, almost absurdly humorous version, and fans absolutely love it.

The next title in the franchise is called Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and it will retell all nine films that tell the Skywalker story. It is slated to come out in the spring of 2021 and a lot of fans are excited to see how the game will play out.
7 Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart
Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart is an upcoming game by Insomniac Games for Sony's PlayStation 5. It was initially announced during the PlayStation 5 reveal event and it immediately caught the attention of many for its apparent next-generation features.
The game will feature Ratchet's new ability called Rift Tether which will allow him to warp between locations instantaneously. This feature can be attributed to the PlayStation 5's powerful processing power and its custom solid-state drive. Judging from the gameplay trailer alone, the game itself looks incredibly gorgeous and players can't wait to play this game once it comes out later this year.
6 Gotham Knights
Gotham Knights is an upcoming game developed by WB Games Montreal and it tells the story of the Batman family attempting to keep Gotham in order after the supposed death of Batman.
The game will have players control Nightwing, Red Hood, Batgirl, and Robin alternatively. Each character will have a unique playstyle and abilities. It can be played solo or as a coop multiplayer. The game will come out sometime in 2021, and Batman fans all over the world are just dying to play this game.
5 Far Cry 6
Far Cry 6 is the sixth entry of the commercially successful and critically acclaimed Far Cry franchise. It was supposed to come out in February of this year but was delayed due to development hindrances brought upon by the ongoing pandemic.
The game will follow the formula of the earlier Far Cry games. This game will reportedly have the largest island the franchise has ever put out. It'll take the players on a Caribbean island as they attempt to topple over the regime of a dictator called "El Presidente." The antagonist is even played by Giancarlo Esposito to boot.
4 Halo Infinite
The Halo franchise is one of Microsoft's biggest franchises ever. Master Chief, the main hero of the game, is one of video game's most recognizable icons. When Halo Infinite was announced in 2018, fans were understandably ecstatic.

The game was planned to be a launch title for the Xbox Series X. Unfortunately, the game was delayed and it is now slated to come out later this year. Fans were upset at the news of the delay, but are now getting more and more excited as the days go closer to the release.
3 Horizon Forbidden West
Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to the massively successful Horizon Zero Dawn. It will continue the journey of Aloy, taking her and the players to uncharted lands and have them face new challenges.
The game's announcement during the PlayStation reveal event was met with digital cheers and applause. Many people absolutely adored the first game and this sequel is now becoming one of the most anticipated games of the year.
2 God Of War Sequel
God of War is a franchise that requires no introduction. It has always been a PlayStation staple title and the latest soft-reboot is considered by many as one of the best video games of all time.
The untitled sequel was slyly announced during a PlayStation 5 Showcase event in September of 2020, and it took the video game community by storm. There is no follow-up trailer nor is there any gameplay footage yet, but it is still one of the most anticipated games of the year.
1 Elden Ring
FromSoftware Games is a video game studio many recognize to be one of the best of this generation. Their titles have been nothing short of superb and any news of an upcoming game tied to the studio is always met with a warm response.
When a trailer for the Elden Ring was released at E3 2019, fans cheered and rejoiced. On top of being developed by FromSoftware, it would also be co-written by the creator of A Song of Ice and Fire novels himself, George R.R. Martin. Further news about the game is scarce and everyone is just incredibly excited to see more of FromSoftware's supposed "biggest game to date."
