Overwatch players can access a new Nvidia feature within the game that aims to improve various aspects of performance throughout combat.

Even with a diverse cast of heroes and playstyles, Overwatch is a game with a competitive edge. Blizzard's team-based shooter includes gameplay ranging from melee to precision sniping, and many players flex their skills in ranked mode. Now, fans with a specific GPU can enjoy additional benefits in combat due to Overwatch receiving Nvidia Reflex support.

The feature primarily has to do with reducing latency in multiplayer games, and thereby improving performance. With high latency, players can experience lag or freezing which is a death sentence in competitive play. When it comes to strategies and ultimates in Overwatch, one whiffed play or elimination can make or break games.

Nvidia claims that by enabling the feature, players can reduce latency by up to 50 percent. With the potential to limit latency by up to half, players will want to make sure Nvidia Reflex is on. That said, the only way to gain access to this option is by having a GeForce GPU. This means those looking to enable the feature will first need a GeForce GTX 900 Series card at minimum. Originally Nvidia Reflex was only on Overwatch's PTR, but players can now click over to the Video settings and turn on Reflex in the main game.

Nvidia is testing a Boost mode feature as well. While so far this option is mainly being experimented in Fortnite and Valorant, it could come to other titles. Much like Nvidia Reflex, Boost mode reduces latency further for more precise interactions in multiplayer. If fans are wondering how much Nvidia Reflex assists with their personal gaming, the GeForce Experience app can reflect data collected for FPS, latency, and more so players can see what is going on under the hood.

For those hardcore Overwatch players, Nvidia Reflex will be a major boon. Some of the characters and team compositions in the game rely heavily on hit scan eliminations. By having the lowest possibly latency, these players can rely on their own ability. The fact that gamers can simply turn Reflex on and off from the game's settings makes it worth trying out. It does not require any additional purchases outside of Overwatch, so players can steer clear of ISPs offering reduced latency at a cost.

This could cause some frustration throughout the game's competitive community. Low latency will give those players an edge over others, but since it is restricted to GeForce GPUs, not everyone can participate. This could lead to some mistakenly reporting Nvidia Reflex users as cheating, despite it being a normal option. Nevertheless, players with newer GeForce cards can test out the option during the Archives event currently running in Overwatch to see if it improves their game.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
