Pokemon GO has included microtransactions since the mobile AR game's earliest days, but in general there has be relatively low drama surrounding those options. The game doesn't include any major pay-to-win scheme and most microtransactions are just additional items, storage space, or access to exclusive events. That said, the game's Egg hatching system is the closest thing to a loot box that the app includes.
Eggs can hatch different Pokemon based on the distance it takes to hatch them and what events or season is currently underway. Up until now, trainers who want to know what might hatch from a particular Egg have had to do some serious homework outside of the Pokemon GO app to find out what Pokemon were available in that Egg size on the date when the Egg was collected. Luckily, a new quality of life improvement is starting to remove a lot of the frustrating mystery from that process.

The Egg transparency quality of life update in Pokemon GO adds the ability for trainers to easily view which Pokemon could possibly hatch from each Egg size. Keep in mind that this feature will not reveal whether there's a chance the Pokemon might be shiny or not. This is a major improvement and yet another enhancement that adds something to the game that players were previously finding ways to do through third-party apps or websites.
To utilize the new feature, trainers simply need to tap an Egg to see the possibly hatches it contains. If players are happy with what they see, then they can decide to utilize an Egg Incubator and start putting in the distance it takes to hatch that Egg and see which Pokemon is actually inside. The list that appears is organized by rarity from most common to most rare. The Pokemon listed under one egg are most likely to hatch and the Pokemon listed under five eggs are least likely to hatch, but are still possible.
The new feature is now available globally, so players should be able to login to the app, open their Egg inventory, and give it a try right now to help decide which Egg will get incubated next for them. Keep in mind that the feature will only work for new Eggs that are picked up since the feature went live, so older Eggs in their inventory may not support this new feature.
In the coming weeks, players should learn a lot more about what other events are on the way throughout the final weeks of the the Season of Legends. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
