Resident Evil Re:Verse's open beta gets suspended only hours after its debut, with Capcom attempting to fix some pressing matchmaking issues.

Earlier today, Resident Evil Re:Verse welcomed players to its open beta, encouraging them to try out the new multiplayer horror shooter ahead of its official launch alongside Resident Evil Village on May 7. A mere few hours after its launch, however, Resident Evil Re:Verse's beta has been suspended due to problems with its matchmaking.

The announcement was made via the Capcom Twitter account, with the account claiming that technical issues occurring earlier today have forced the company to pull the open beta and find the source of the problem. It will allegedly be "temporarily" suspended, so it seems the beta will continue as planned over the weekend once Capcom fixes the problems currently plaguing its launch.

Resident Evil Re:Verse's beta officially went live last night, with players hopping on this morning to see what the newest slice of Resident Evil multiplayer was all about. Although this setback will likely mean they get less time with the game than expected, identifying and fixing technical hiccups is why hosting a beta is so important.

For those not in the loop about Re:Verse, the game will come bundled with Resident Evil Village and allows players to step into the boots of several iconic franchise faces as they do battle across familiar stages. An announcement trailer shown off in January teased a different style of action to the tense Resident Evil combat synonymous with its recent single-player offerings, with players engaging in frantic firefights using an array of powerful weapons. It'll also mark one of the first times they can control Resident Evil's roster of intimidating antagonists, with the teaser confirming that Nemesis, Mr. X, and Jack Baker will all feature as playable characters.

Early reactions to the Resident Evil spin-off's beta have been mixed so far, with some players noting that its combat is clunky and others claiming that its gameplay was repetitive and shallow. It'll be interesting to see more reactions to the game when it comes back online, as the beta was only live for a few hours before it was removed.

Regardless of whether Re:Verse manages to live up to expectations, it will be shipping alongside a game that has a lot more to prove. Resident Evil Village will be the next mainline entry in the iconic horror property and looks to continue capitalizing on the franchise's success over the last few years, with Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 2 Remake, and Resident Evil 3 Remake launching the series back into the stratosphere. Village will seemingly be its biggest offering yet, boasting battles with witches, werewolves, and vampires in a creepy setting heavily reminiscent of Resident Evil 4.

Resident Evil Re:Verse will be available on May 7 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
