The Outer Worlds includes more than twenty side quests for players to complete. Gamers that have already completed the major questlines should explore all of the added content that the game has to offer. One of the most rewarding side quests is "The Doom That Came To Roseway" questline. Before players can complete the quest, they will need to initiate the "Passage to Anywhere" quest.

Gamers need to speak with an NPC named Gladys at the Groundbreaker. Gladys can be found at the Rest-n-Go, which is on the left side of the common area in the Groundbreaker. After speaking with Gladys, players will need complete "The Distress Signal" quest, which will lead gamers to the Doom That Came To Roseway quest.
Players will need to play the distress signal while on the Unreliable. First, gamers will need to speak with Udom Bedford, who is located at the Groundbreaker Promenade. Bedford will resolve the ship's impounding and players will be able to board the ship. At this point, players will want to speak with ADA to play the distress signal. After playing the signal, players will get the coordinates to Roseway, which will be the first step in the Doom That Came to Roseway. Once in Roseway, gamers need to speak to a man named Anton Crane. Anton is the person who sent the initial distress call.
The quest will instruct players to head to the Communications room, which is where the distress call was made by Anton. After entering Roseway, the Communications room is in the center of the city square with a neon "Comms" sign above the door. Once in the building, players will immediately interact with Anton Crane. Gamers should intimidate Anton to get him to reveal the story of what happened to him. He was developing a dental gel using Raptidon enzymes, and his research was stolen by a group of malcontents. Gamers will then need to help find Anton's safe. Anton will detail the location of the safe, which is supposed to contain his research. Players can find it in the covert research lab, which is all the way to the south of Roseway Gardens. Players that follow the road will not miss it. Anton will also provide gamers with the access card and passcode to get in the lab.
After agreeing to find the safe, players will be able to complete the "By His Bootstraps" quest. Gamers can also talk to Vaughn Cortes, who will provide another side quest titled "The Amateur Alchemist." Both NPCs will be marked on the map. Upon entering the "Auntie-Biotics Secret Lab 0027", an NPC named Porter will confront players, asking them what they are doing in the lab. Porter can be persuaded, which will give players access to his office. Either way, gamers will need to chat with Porter and find Anton's office after perusing the area. There will be a few sentries and bandits to kill along the way and Anton's office will be marked as a green indicator. After viewing the safe, players will learn that Anton's data has been stolen by the malcontents.
At this point, gamers can decide if they want to eliminate the outlaws and deal with the Raptidons. The best course of action for XP purposes is to kill all of the Raptidons while gassing them. Players will get an XP boost for gassing them first and then killing them. This will also allow players to inform Anton that the creatures have been gassed. The gas canisters can be found in the three locations outlined below:
- In an office on the southeast part of the lab
- In Vaughn's lab
- On the west side of the map, just to the right of the ladder that leads into the incubation chamber
Players will then want to go into the chamber and install the canisters just to the right of the entrance. Then, the ventilation on the other side of the room can be activated to gas the Raptidons.
At the center of the map, players will meet the leader of the miscreants, Cassandra O'Malley, who will be denoted by the green objective icon. She will be trapped in a cell and ask for help. There are multiple options for players in the quest. They can convince Porter to help her, assist her in escaping without his help, or kill her. Players that allow her to escape will need to help her remove the vents to exit the room. She will then hand over Anton's data, but her minions will attack, unless she is persuaded to call them off. If Cassandra is successfully persuaded, gamers will have an uncontested path to escape.
If players decide to let Cassandra live, there are a few important steps to follow. Gamers should lie, persuade, and intimidate her to hand over the research. Then, players should choose the option to tell her that she was not rescued without a cost. The reward for completing these steps is 1200 Bit Cartridges. An NPC named Lillian will also appear outside of the lab to initiate the "Journey in Smoke" quest.
Impatient players can just kill Cassandra and take the research data. This option will quell the unrest among the outlaws. A third option exists for adept players. It is possible to both manipulate Cassandra for the 1200 Bit and kill her for the extra 400 xp.
If players return the research data to Anton, they will receive the following rewards and a rare armor piece:
- Auntie Cleo Reputation
- 3755 Bit Cartridge
- 23,000 xp
- Researcher's Scrubs
Gamers can also opt to return the data to Gladys at the Groundbreaker for slightly more experience points. Returning the data to Anton or Gladys will complete the Doom That Came To Roseway quest.
