Outriders tasks players with collecting journal entries found throughout the world, but there are 11 to be found in the first area, Rift Town.

While playing through Outriders, players will likely have their hands full fighting against the insurgents, mutated enemies, and hostile wildlife, but there's a good deal of recordkeeping that needs doing as well. Scattered throughout Enoch, players can find journal entries, reports, letters, and other scraps that hint at what life was like before the Outrider woke up from their decades long slumber. While these journal entries can be found all around the world, there are actually 11 to be found right at the start of the game in the first area after the initial prologue, Rift Town.

These journal entries are saved to the player's account, meaning they won't need to worry about collecting them again when they start a new character in Outriders. It's a good idea to run through and grab them all early on since they will help players to increase their accolade level and unlock new cosmetic options and emotes. For the lore buffs out there, they are also a great way to learn more about each character's personality and motivations, as well as what life on Enoch is really like. There are also some notes that detail the journey to Enoch and tell of the final moments of Earth.

Starting from Shira's office, the first journal entry players will need to hunt down belongs to the Grand Marshall of Rift Town herself. Face Shira's office and turn to the right to find a set of stairs leading down. At the bottom of these stairs next to a pile of boxes is Shira's Journal. Reading this will give players more insight on this important character.

For the next journal, turn around and head out to the main area of Rift Town. Follow the stairs down to the ground level and move forward a bit before taking a right turn at a tent. Behind a white generator, the note entitled The Relocation can be found. With the Anomaly storm closing in, the ECA was forced to move humanity into the Rift where the player stands now. This note details why and how it went about doing that.

Continue through Rift Town heading towards the exit to the Frontlines. Pass by the Historian and other shops and enter the area that serves as the Outrider's base of operations. When facing the door to the Frontlines area, look to the left to find notes titled The Landing next to a white gas tank. This note provides more details on the events that occurred during the game's tutorial.

Now turn to the left and start heading towards the back wall. Players should be able to see the next journal entry through the debris here, but they'll need to go all the way around the back in order to get to it. After going behind the large metal wall, grab the Textile Manufacturing journal entry.

Next, head out the door to the Frontlines area. Immediately on the left at the very beginning there should be a stone staircase leading up. There are several soldiers and NPCs talking in front of this staircase, but players can just run past them. Follow this path to find a pile of notes sitting in the corner. Feeding the Colony details the strides and struggles the ECA faced with food shortages.

For this journal entry, players will need to continue on in the Frontlines area until they reach the next beacon flag. Since there is a fight just before reaching this area, players that have already cleared the zone can opt instead to warp to the beacon flag called Crossroads. Right behind the ammo refill container players can find the journal entry called The Coming End. This journal details the horrible natural disasters that forced humanity off the planet.

Head up the hill to find a wounded soldier. Speaking with her will start the Payback sidequest in which players must find and kill Captain Reiner. Progress through the quest area and take the boss down, but before heading out, pick up this note from the corner of the room. It is located just to the right of the door that players entered. Reading this journal will give players more information about Reiner, the insurgent that set the Outrider out into the storm in the first place.

Use the beacon flag to warp back to Rift Town, but this time head towards Hounds Territory. To save time, pick up the side quest titled "A Bad Day" before coming this way. On the way to Hound's Territory, make a right turn to find this note hidden behind some rubbish. This one details many curious encounters on the flight of the Flores to Enoch.

Continue on going deeper into Hound's Territory until reaching a staircase leading down. Follow the steps and players should find a note near a burning barrel. The Hound's Note gives more details on who the Hounds are as an organization.

At the bottom of the stairs, players can enter the "A Bad Day" quest area. Continue through this as normal until receiving instructions to "open the gate." When facing the gate, turn to the left and enter this container to find Eva's Letter on the ground. Reading the letter reinforces that she was close to Mr. Chang, making it all the more upsetting that he died at the start of the mission.

For the last journal, players will need to complete the entirety of the "A Bad Day" sidequest. After rescuing Eva and killing Barker, players should search the room to find this journal before leaving. Barker's Journal can be found on a table right next to the exit door. Although he is of little consequence now, players can read this note to learn more about who Barker was.
