Outriders, the third-person RPG released April 1, will be getting its first big update next week. No official release date has been announced yet, but players can expect this update to solve the crashing problem that Outriders has had thus far.
Outriders has received favorable reviews thus far and the developer is taking the coming days to identify issues players have encountered since release. Outriders was developed by People Can Fly, known for its work on the Bulletstorm franchise, and was published by Square Enix.

The majority of this update focuses on patching the various types of crashes players have experienced. One of the multiplayer concerns has wiped player's inventories, while another occurred if a player was in No Man's Land and had their language set to Spanish. The post also makes sure to note that, though the majority of crashes thus far have been in varying circumstances, there are only a handful of root causes. Players who have experienced issues with matchmaking in Outriders should note that another core piece of this update is aimed at improving its stability.
It isn't uncommon for games to require fixes and updates post-release, and Outriders looks to be no different. From what is currently known about this upcoming patch, it seems as though the developers are working on making sure the game runs well, doesn't crash often, and tweaking the balance when it comes to weapons and player strategies. Cross-play across platforms will be possible again, but all platforms must have the same patch version.
Though an official release date for this patch would be appreciated, the reason given makes sense and a proper patch is absolutely preferable to a series of piecemeal patches. Communication from the Square Enix team is going to be key to the extended success of the game, and is usually appreciated by players. For now an early patch to solve some of the game's issues is nice, but its effectiveness will have to be seen upon release.
It is somewhat unfortunate that there are so many issues for the patch to resolve. The developer announced this game was in development in 2015, and six years is quite a long time for the game to still have issues with crashing. That being said, People Can Fly expanded significantly during this time, as did its vision for this game. At the end of the day players will likely be pleased to know an update is coming, and hopeful that it solves most of the issues.
Outriders is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
