Call of Duty: Warzone players Thomas 'Tommey' Trewren and Ben 'Almxnd' confirm winning a game by forfeit doesn't result in a victory.

During a recent game of Call of Duty: Warzone, two veteran players encountered an unfamiliar and perplexing forfeit screen in the final circle that suggested they won, but upon checking player statistics, the forfeit didn't count as a win.

Call of Duty: Warzone players Thomas "Tommey" Trewren and Ben "Almxnd" were playing the battle royale on April 8th when they made it to the final circle (often a difficult task in Warzone). While scouting the final circle, both Call of Duty: Warzone players received an unfamiliar countdown timer and a message notifying them that their enemies have forfeited the match.

While Tommey and Almxnd intended to secure their own victory in Call of Duty: Warzone when they won by forfeit, it's clear that the enemy team abandoned the game during the final circle. Neither of the veteran Warzone players had experienced this feature in the past, resulting in confusion that led them to the player statistics page. Upon checking the player statistics, Tommey discovered that the forfeit victory didn't count as a victory in the long run. Tommey quickly took to Twitter to voice his frustrations with the forfeit victory, suggesting that the players would've preferred to earn the victory the old-fashioned way rather than winning by default.

Raven Software's Call of Duty: Warzone is in the midst of season 2 which changed up the map, the weapons, and the meta of the battle royale in February. While other Warzone players may have encountered this strange forfeit victory, it appears that Tommey and Almxnd are the first to discover that they don't count as victories in player statistics. While it isn't unheard of to see players drop out of battle royale games before they're slain, it's quite rare to see a forfeit in the final circle. It’s currently unclear if this forfeit screen has been in the game since release, or if it was added in a later patch.

Considering Call of Duty: Warzone is a battle royale, anything that could happen will happen in due time, but it's always disappointing to win a match and not get credit for it in the player statistics. Because Tommey's footage of the forfeit and the countdown timer is the first evidence of this screen, this may be the first time that Call of Duty: Warzone players actually won from a forfeit, suggesting that all other forfeits that have happened in the past occurred prior to the final circle. Due to how rare this final circle forfeit screen is, it seems punishing for not adding a victory to player statistics.

Although it seems deflating to win by forfeit after a grueling match of Call of Duty: Warzone, Raven Software may be trying to avoid a system that can be exploited. If a popular streamer managed to get into a match with a lot of their fanbase, they could theoretically increase their statistics through forfeit victories if they counted towards player statistics. Considering Raven Software hasn't announced a fix for this issue, it may be intentional that Warzone players don't get a victory towards their player statistics when someone forfeits in the final circle.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available right now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
