Team GO Rocket hasn't changed their Pokemon line-up too much, though leader Sierra still stands as a force to be reckoned with in Pokemon GO.

Season of Discovery is well underway in Pokemon GO, though that doesn't mean that Team GO Rocket is taking any time off. In fact, all three leaders remain as strong as ever, even though their line-ups haven't changed much since the Luminous Legends Y event.

Facing off against any of the Team GO Rocket leaders starts with the assembly of a Rocket Radar. For Sierra, her setup is more or less the same as before - she starts off Round 1 with Sneasel, with Round 2 choices being between Ampharos, Granbull, or Gliscor, and Round 3 choices between Houndoom, Kingdra, or Drapion.

Sierra is guaranteed to start off with the dual Dark and Ice-type Sneasel, which is weak to Fighting, Fairy, Bug, Steel, Fire, and Rock-type moves. It can resist damage from Ghost, Ice, Dark, and Psychic-type moves though, so Pokemon GO trainers should plan accordingly. Some good counters include:

  • Blaziken - Fire Spin & Focus Blast
  • Machamp - Karate Chop & Dynamic Punch
  • Lucario - Counter & Close Combat
  • Sirfetch'd - Fury Cutter & Close Combat
  • Landorus (Therian) - Mud Spot & Focus Blast

Here's where Sierra can switch things up a bit. She might throw out Ampharos, a pure Electric-type Pokemon, which only has a weakness toward Ground-type moves. However, it can resist Steel, Electric, and Flying-type moves. That said, it can't mega-evolve into Mega Ampharos, though it can still be a challenging fight otherwise. Some counters include:

  • Landorus (Therian) - Mud Shot & Earthquake
  • Krookodile - Mud-Slap & Earthquake
  • Golem - Mud-Slap & Earthquake
  • Mamoswine - Mud-Slap & Earthquake
  • Rhyperior - Smack Down & Earthquake

Another one of her options is Granbull, the pure Fairy-type Pokemon. Granbull is weak only to Steel and Poison-type moves but resists damage from Fighting, Bug, Dark, and Dragon-type moves. The recommendations are more or less the same here - Steel and Poison-type Pokemon and Pokemon with Steel and Poison-type moves will make this a breeze. Some good Pokemon to bring include:

  • White Kyurem - Steel Wing & Blizzard
  • Genesect - Metal Claw & Magnet Bomb
  • Roserade - Poison Jab & Sludge Bomb
  • Attack Deoxys - Poison Jab & Zap Cannon
  • Metagross - Bullet Punch & Meteor Mash

Her final choice here is Gliscor, the dual Ground and Flying-type Pokemon. Its typing means it's weak only to Ice and Water-type moves but can resist damage from Electric, Fighting, Bug, Poison, and Ground-type moves. In spite of the number of resistances, there are still plenty of counters to bring against this Pokemon, such as:

  • Mamoswine - Powder Snow & Avalanche
  • Gyarados - Waterfall & Aqua Tail
  • Slowbro - Water Gun & Ice Beam
  • Mr. Mime (Mime Galarian) - Confusion & Ice Punch
  • Walrein - Frost Breath & Blizzard

Sierra's Houndoom is a lot like her Ampharos - it can't mega-evolve, though it can definitely be some trouble if it shows up as her final Pokemon. The dual Dark and Fire-type Pokemon is weak to Fighting, Ground, Rock, and Water-type moves. On the other hand, it resists Steel, Ghost, Grass, Ice, Dark, Fire, and Psychic-type moves. Some good Pokemon to bring for this battle include:

  • Kyogre - Waterfall & Hydro Pump
  • Rampardos - Smack Down & Rock Slide
  • Landorus (Therian) - Rock Throw & Earth Power
  • Blaziken - Counter & Focus Blast
  • Kingler - Mud Shot & Crabhammer

The dual Water and Dragon-type Pokemon Kingdra remains another choice for Sierra during the third round. Kingdra is weak to Fairy-type and Dragon-type moves and can resist damage from Steel, Water, and Fire-type moves. Players are free to bet their own Dragon-types against Sierra's, though there are quite a few Fairy-types equally as capable:

  • Granbull - Charm & Play Rough
  • Xerneas - Tackle & Moonblast
  • Mega Altaria - Peck & Dazzling Gleam
  • Togekiss - Charm & Dazzling Gleam
  • Gardevoir - Charm & Dazzling Gleam

Finally, Sierra could always choose to go with Drapion. If she does though, it'll be her strongest move yet, as the dual Poison and Dark-type Pokemon only has a weakness against Ground-type moves. However, it can resist damage from Psychic, Ghost, Grass, Poison, and Dark-type moves. That said, there are plenty of Ground-type Pokemon and Ground-type moves that can be used:

  • Groudon - Mud Shot & Earthquake
  • Nidoking - Fury Cutter & Earth Power
  • Mamoswine - Mud-Slap & Bulldoze
  • Excadrill - Mud Shot & Earthquake
  • Therian Landorus - Mud Shot & Earthquake
