Pokemon GO trainers who want to ensure a Groudon encounter this week can follow these steps to learn how to find and catch the powerful legendary.

Pokemon GO's latest event, the Hoenn Celebration, is now underway.  That means players have the better part of a week to go around completing special tasks, hatching Eggs, and participating in Battle Raids to help fill in the missing spots in the Hoenn section of their Pokedex. One of the most exciting parts of the event includes the return of a very powerful Legendary Pokemon: Groudon.

Groudon has an important place in the Pokemon GO metagame and has continued to be a key performer in both PvE and PvP scenarios. That makes it a pretty popular chase Legendary and Pokemon GO players should take note of how to find and catch Groudon while they have the opportunity. The ground-type hasn't returned for many Battle Raids since its original appearance, so trainers won't want to waste this opportunity.

Luckily, running into Groudon won't be very difficult, as long as players know what they are looking for and are ready for a fight once they find it. Having a few Friends ready with Remote Raid Passes won't hurt either...

During the Hoenn Celebration week in Pokemon GO, Groudon will be returning to 5-star Battle Raids. That means that players have between Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. local time and Sunday, January 24, 2021, at 8:00 p.m. local time to find Groudon at a 5-star Battle Raid if they want a chance to catch him this round. Once the Battle Raid is located, players then just need to team up with a group of trainers to defeat the Legendary Pokemon by taking advantage of its weakness to Water- and Grass-types.

Once players successfully defeat the Pokemon, they'll want to use Golden Razz Berries and Great or Perfect curveball throws in order to maximize their chance of catching the Pokemon. They can increase their odds by dealing extra damage during the raid and teaming up with other trainers of the same team (red, yellow, or blue) to ensure they can't as many Premium Pokeballs for the encounter as possible. There's always going to be some degree of luck to these encounters, but following those steps should hopefully lead to a successful encounter and a new Groudon added to the collection.

As trainers continue working through these amazing Celebration events and enjoying the new era of the GO Beyond update as they count down to the next season, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
