Summer Game Fest returns with Geoff Keighley at the helm of big reveals, musical entertainment, and a few surprises on the way. Summer Game Fest 2021 will kick off on June 10 and promises to be a big start to the festivities of E3 that are set to follow just a few short days later.

The kickoff of the latest event will start with a performance from Weezer (I hope they are wearing sweaters). The show is set to begin at 11 a.m. Pacific and will feature announcements from Activision, PlayStation, Xbox, Ubisoft, EA, and so many more:

☀️The first lineup details are here! ☀️

"The idea is that we will have a big kick-off show this year," Keighley told GamesIndustry.biz. "Everything last year was so spread apart by nature of the pandemic. And the feedback from everyone is that they want these games shows altogether. So, now we are going to just do a big full-on show for Summer Games Fest that leads into the big publisher events. Which is hopefully more of what people wanted, where things are more condensed and combined together. So people have a date and a time to show up for news. That's what we are going for."

In the past, Keighley has been a part of the E3 showcase, particularly with the Coliseum. He has since announced that he was putting distance between him and the ESA event, but what that means now is that there are even more events for gamers to enjoy. With big names as part of the dossier for the Summer Games Fest and over 12 world premieres, it's anyone's guess what will be revealed but we know we're excited to see more. That being said, he did tell the site that people should "manage their expectations" more regarding any event, not just Summer Games Fest. With so many large events on the horizon with E3, The Game Awards, Gamescom, and more, Summer Games Fest is meant to be in addition to those showcases, not in place of.

What are you hoping to see from Summer Game Fest 2021? Are you excited to kick off the next few months, a time that is renowned for being plump with gaming news? Sound off with your thoughts in the comment section below.

E3 2021 will undoubtedly feature several big announcements but it looks like any news on Hollow Knight: Silksong won’t be among them. Matthew Griffin, who works in the marketing and publishing arm of Team Cherry, recently posted in the game’s official Discord channel to share that the developer has no plans to share anything new during the annual event, which would presumably include any update on Silksong.

A screencap of Griffin’s short but not-so-sweet statement made the rounds on the official Hollow Knight subreddit, which you can view here. Otherwise, you can read it below:

“Hey guys! I just wanted to pop in and let you know that Team Cherry does not have any announcements/blogs scheduled for E3 this year.” said Griffin.

That’s undoubtedly disappointing to hear if you're a Hollow Knight fan since Silksong has been coming along quietly for a couple of years now. The game was announced in February 2019 and began life as DLC for the original Hollow Knight. However, its scope expanded to the point that Team Cherry rebranded it as a standalone sequel. Silksong stars Hornet, the warrior princess and recurring rival from the first game, who battles her way through an unfamiliar world filled with over 150 new enemies. For an idea of what to expect, check out our last hands-on preview from E3 2019 here

Now, if you really want to put on your conspiracy hats, Griffin’s statement specifies Team Cherry won't have anything to share during E3 itself. That might not necessarily mean the studio won’t pop up during another event, such as Summer Games Fest, or just announce something independently during that timeframe. Personally, my gut tells me we're in for a Silksong-less summer, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

Supermassive Games has shared a first look at the next part of its Dark Pictures Anthology with a new House of Ashes teaser trailer. Even better, the Until Dawn studio has shared when horror fans can expect a full reveal, and it's going down next week!

In the below trailer, we can see a military background for the upcoming chapter in this horror saga. When tension crests and the military lays siege in the Zagros mountains, something ancient and evil makes its way to the surface. While the narrative is different than Man of Medan and Little Hope, the tone is the same: things are about to go from bad to worse to oh my god, Liana stop screaming

"In the shadow of the Zagros mountains a military unit comes under fire from Iraqi forces," says Supermassive Games in a recent press release. "The resulting firefight causes an earth tremor where both sides fall into the ruins of a buried Sumerian temple. With all communication severed, our protagonists are trapped in a terrifying underworld they must navigate to escape, unaware that something ancient and evil has awakened in the shadows and has found a new prey to hunt."

The studio promises a full reveal of what's "buried deep underground" on May 27 at 9 a.m. Pacific. Hopefully, a release date will be shown as well, especially with E3 and Summer Game Fest on the horizon just a few weeks later.

Supermassive knows a thing or two about crafting an excellent tale. While the Dark Pictures Anthology has had some dips in reception, largely due to pacing and mechanics, the stories created are uniquely terrifying and creatively magical. Until Dawn was also a treasure, taking horror tropes and transforming them into something both campy and meaningful at the same time. What's next for the studio remains to be seen, but we are fully prepared to get those scares in soon when the next chapter is fully revealed later this month.

A free new update has arrived for The Last of Us Part 2 and it brings with it more frame rate options for players to choose from when looking for a more optimized gaming experience. Arne Meyer, the director of communications over at Naughty Dog, took a few moments to outline what players can expect with the latest patch.

The Last of Us Part 2 patch 1.08 details

Despite criticisms, The Last of Us Part 2 smashed through sales goals and has won an impressive amount of awards surrounding a more grown-up Ellie, and the horrors that she faced in a terrible world made worse so by the impact of revenge. For those that were lucky enough to score a PlayStation 5, the PS5 version of the game has received a new update that targets performance, giving fans a chance to toggle between two options.

The new update is free to download right now and offers an addition to the display options for those looking for improved performance. Now, players can toggle between a framerate target of 30 FPS or 60 FPS in addition to the other PS5-driven features like faster loading times, improved resolution, and more.

It looks like even more tweaks could be on the horizon as well. In the latest PlayStation Blog post, Meyer said, "The team has been digging into the PS5 hardware and the possibilities it unlocks since launch last year and we’re excited about what the future holds. This patch is just the first step of working on the PS5. We’ll let you know when we’ve got more news to share!"

With Returnal players losing their collective minds over the unique haptic feedback from the DualSense, especially regarding rain effects, it will be interesting to see what other improvements are coming down the pipeline for The Last of Us sequel. With the new HBO TV series also on the way, it looks like the tale of Ellie (and Joel, regarding the show) is far from over.
