Pinnacle Gear is vitally important to raising your character power level in Destiny 2. Here's all you need to know about it.

Destiny 2 has already entered its fourth year, and Bungie has kept the game relevant with five different expansions. Bungie has plans for at least two more big updates for the game in the next two years. With every expansion, players were given the opportunity to achieve an even higher level with upgraded powerful armor. After the Season of The Chosen update, players can achieve a power level of 1310 if they have the correct armor and weapons.

In Destiny 2, power level is influenced solely by the level and type of armor players have equipped. When the game was initially released, players could achieve a max light (power) level of 300, or 305 with the right mods equipped. The max power level has steadily increased with each new season and each new expansion. Players that have not played Destiny 2 since Season 1 will have some catching up to do.

At launch, the highest-ranked engrams in the game were exotic engrams. Engrams could then be converted into exotic armor and weapons. Below are the engrams in the base game ranked from the lowest to highest power levels:

  • Uncommon (Green)
  • Rare (blue)
  • Legendary (Purple)
  • Exotic (Gold)

Bungie later added the stronger powerful gear, which can be earned by completing activities like Nightfall. Finally, Bungie added the Pinnacle gear, which will help players to get past the soft and hard caps. Once a player receives pinnacle gear, they will have to level the armor and weapons to reach 1310 power. Unfortunately, all engram and gear drops in Destiny 2 are random. Gamers will have to be patient when completing activities and raids as they may not get the type of gear they need every time. However, with persistence and a little bit of luck, gamers should have no problem achieving max level in the Season of the Chosen.

Destiny 2 gamers that are looking to reach the Pinnacle cap have a number of options. After the Season of the Chosen update, players can find powerful armor by completing strikes, playing the crucible, as well as the Gambit. Gamers that already have powerful gear and would like to reach the max level can find Pinnacle gear in a number of activities up to this point.

The easiest ways for players to obtain Pinnacle gear is through the strike, crucible, and gambit playlists. Destiny 2 players can also get Pinnacle gear from the weekly Exo challenge, which is straightforward enough for casual players. Gamers with a competent squad can get Pinnacle rewards from the 100,000 point Nightfall challenge and Empire Hunt. While Nightfall and Empire Hunt can be difficult for players that have not touched Destiny 2 for a while, players can get to the hard cap quite quickly by playing the various modes in the game.

Despite all these options, the Deep Stone Crypt is probably the best option to get the most Pinnacle gear and reach the maximum power level. Players will receive Pinnacle gear after every boss that is defeated. Destiny gamers that have experience in the Prophecy Dungeon might want to consider running the raid again, as players will get at least some Pinnacle Gear. Players should remember to stop by Hawthorne every week, as she grants pinnacle rewards for clan XP. See below for a comprehensive list:

  • EXO Europa Challenge
  • Strike, Gambit, and the Crucible
  • Master Empire Hunt
  • Nightfall 100,000 point challenge
  • Trials of Osiris
  • Hawthorne weekly clan rewards
  • Season of The Chosen activities
  • Bounties from the Iron Banner

In the Season of The Chosen, getting beyond the hard cap is easier than it has ever been. Gamers can reach the soft cap by simply playing the game. Any loot picked up by a player blue or higher will help the player achieve the soft cap of 1260. Players that are still at the original cap of 300 will not have to play for months to get the gear required to reach the Pinnacle cap. Returning gamers should have no problem approaching the hard cap in just a couple of weeks. Players that have the time to keep up with daily challenges and rewards will have pinnacle gear in no time.

To progress further, players will have to complete activities with powerful gear rewards. Instead of trying to level up by getting Pinnacle gear first, players will have a much easier time picking up legendary and exotic engrams before attempting any of the powerful or Pinnacle activities. By just playing the game, it is very straightforward to surpass the soft cap. Once players have reached level 1260, they should complete the below activities to get powerful gear and surpass the hard cap.

Many of the activities and challenges can be completed playing solo, although it does help to have back up during raids and in the Crucible. The following are all of the activities gamers can participate in to earn powerful gear:

  • Vendor daily bounties
  • Exo Stranger Stasis Challenge
  • Prophecy Dungeon
  • Trials of Osiris
  • Prime Engrams
  • Crucible Glory and Valor playlists
  • Gambit
  • Hawthorne clan rewards
  • Nightfall
